The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments is seeking a Transportation Planner in Traffic Operations team. This position plays a vital role in advancing regional efforts to enhance mobility reduce congestion and improve transportation operations and safety through the strategic development and implementation of innovative transportation plans and technologies. The successful candidate will help optimize the performance of the existing transportation network using data-driven strategies and through collaboration with local and state partners. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Working with supervisor to review consultant activities for a region-wide program focused on traffic signal and intersection enhancements along inter-city corridors
  • Working with supervisor to review consultant activities to maintain a regional traffic signal performance platform and traffic signal inventory
  • Working with supervisor to collect process and analyze traffic performance data using platforms or other probe data analytical tools to support performance reporting and decision making
  • Working with supervisor to develop performance dashboards and visualization tools to monitor congestion reliability and signal performance metrics
  • Assisting with the evaluation and prioritization of regional traffic signal infrastructure updates
  • Assisting with the evaluation of technology readiness and cost benefit analyses for ITS and communications projects
  • Working with supervisor to assist local governments with the development and implementation of transportation plans policies and programs aimed at reducing traffic congestion and improving system reliability
  • Working with supervisor to assist with the development and integration of Traffic Operations strategies into the regions key planning documents including the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) and Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP)
  • Working with supervisor to develop strategies for transportation plans assess program and project effectiveness through analyses and monitor the implementation of funded projects
  • Assisting supervisor with coordination with internal and external partners to plan budget for projects
  • Drafting for supervisor review reports grant applications and technical documents to communicate transportation concepts and recommendations
  • Drafting presentations for supervisor review with the opportunity to deliver oral presentations to staff and committee members
  • Assisting with planning for and attending meetings workshops and public engagement events to gather input and promote transparency in the transportation planning process

Required Skills

  • Good communication skills both written and verbal and interpersonal skills with the ability to listen to and follow instructions coordinate with team members and present ideas
  • Good critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word Outlook PowerPoint and Excel
  • Detail oriented highly organized with an ability to manage multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline-driven environment without diminishing quality of work
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in analytical quantitative methods
  • One year or less of work-related experience

Starting Salary Range

Minimum of $49022.46 $58826.95 annually

Since 1974 NCTCOG has served as the Metropolitan Planning Organization for transportation in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area and is responsible for developing transportation plans and programs that address the complex needs of the rapidly growing area. The planning area for transportation includes the 12 counties of Collin Dallas Denton Ellis Hood Hunt Johnson Kaufman Parker Rockwall Tarrant and Wise.
