Description

Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSSrelated work Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada by Canadians.

The Facilities Maintenance Planning department is responsible for the overall continuous development of the maintenance and reliability programs to ensure maximum availability and reliability of equipment. The Intern Facilities Operations Maintenance is responsible for assisting the maintenance department in improving developing and standardizing all maintenance processes to be aligned with the internal policies of Seaspan.

Note: Due to business needs this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue North Vancouver.

What youll do

  • Develop and implement predictive techniques plans on critical equipment

  • Assist in developing comprehensive maintenance plans for routine preventive condition-based and predictive maintenance activities

  • Audit and improve current maintenance plans

  • Assist in developing Bill of Materials for critical equipment

  • Assist in developing and handling the facility maintenance and reliability program

  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for maintenance tasks

  • Assist maintenance planners with auditing the quality of data in the CMMS system

  • Assist in developing a maintenance system development plan

  • Assist in the migration of databases

  • Schedule shipping of repairable items to maintain critical spares

What youll bring

  • Enrollment in a degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering

  • General knowledge of predictive techniques such as vibrations thermography oil analysis etc.

  • Ability to interpret data effectively

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team

  • Organized with strong technical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to collaborate with subcontractors suppliers and professionals

  • Computer proficiency in the Windows environment

  • Curiosity about computer applications

  • Self-starter with initiative

Seaspans Internships are 4 or 8 months in duration. We require a full-time commitment MondayFriday 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.

Start Date of Internship: Monday January 12th 2026

End Date of Internship: Friday May 1st 2026 (4-Months) or Friday August 28th 2026 (8-Months)
