Job Summary

We are looking for an individual who is mission driven and passionate about helping others. Do you strive to lead follow and act with integrity In the role of Grant Accountant you will be responsible for providing support to all aspects of managing grants. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with funding requirements preparing financial reports and supporting audits. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills experience with grant accounting and a commitment to accuracy and transparency.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Assists in the preparation and monitors research budgets for all federal state and internal funds as well as BTNRH operating budget.

  • Communicates with research and accounting staff to ensure compliance with federal rules and regulations.

  • Reviews and monitors research procurements including materials services travel credit card and capital expenditures.

  • Prepares adjusting and closing entries for month end close ensuring deadlines are met.

  • Reviews grant and contract proposals for accuracy reasonableness and consistency.

  • Analyzes financial statements prepares reports for trends or variances comparing actual to budget and prior year for both expenses and revenues and communicates findings with appropriate management.

  • Assists in the implementation of systems controls and reporting for accounting and budgets.

  • Determines financial status for required interim and closeout reports.

  • Communicates changes with research payroll and corporate departments to ensure accuracy and completion of grant time and effort reports.

  • Works with staff to interpret NIH FFBH & BTNRH policies concerning budgetary financial accounting purchasing & related grant business matters.

  • Completes special projects as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles and to communicate concisely both orally and written with all levels of management.

  • Ability to apply knowledge of federal grant accounting procedures necessary to oversee maintenance reimbursement & disbursement of all grant & research contract revenue and expenditures.

  • Ability to research analyze and write both regular as well as special reports in a clear and concise manner.

  • Ability to operate a P.C. spreadsheet software 10-key calculator & other office equipment as necessary.

  • Ability to maintain a high level of integrity confidentiality & professionalism.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardizations exist.

  • Ability to interpret instructions in written oral diagram or schedule form.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree in accounting finance or business administration or minimum of 5 years accounting experience required.

  • Experience with personal computers and excel spreadsheets required.

  • General ledger accounting and financial analysis experience required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous grant financial accounting experience preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS EQUIPMENT USAGE WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Position is relatively sedentary in a normal office administrative environment involving minimum exposure to physical risks. Will use office equipment such as a computer/laptop monitor keyboard and a general workstation set-up.
