Minimum Qualifications:
BS in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy PLUS5 years of experience working as a pharmacist (or pharmacy intern) in a retail or hospital setting (i.e. previous hospital experience sterile compounding experience hazardous drug handling etc.). PGY1 equates to 2 years of experience.
Licensed registered pharmacist by the state of Arkansas or eligible for licensure in Arkansas (licensure includes requirement for education component; must be a graduate of an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy as a condition of licensure)
Demonstrated experience in at least one of the following areas:
Project development
Implementation of services
Committee involvement
Policy development and review
Preferred Qualifications:
Pharm.D.
Additional advanced degrees (MBA MPH MHA PMA MHSA MEd PhD in healthcare M.S.)
7 years applicable experience (i.e. previous hospital experience sterile compounding experience hazardous drug handling etc.); PGY1 equates to 2 years of experience (i.e. previous hospital experience sterile compounding experience hazardous drug handling etc.).
Board certification (or comparable certification/accreditation in relevant area)

Responsibilities:
Reviews and verifies medication orders including checking for appropriateness proper dosing contraindications allergies proper volumes and concentrations mixing instructions administration instructions etc.
Ensures proper preparation and labeling of oral & injectable medications
Performs sterile compounding of hazardous and non-hazardous medications
Performs final check of all medicines before dispensing
Properly utilizes technology to perform the job including all hoods pumps computers barcode scanners electronic medical record investigational drug inventory software Microsoft Word/Excel etc.
Dispenses investigational drugs accurately
Collaborates regularly with RNs APRNs and physicians in the provision and coordination of patient care
Performs or assists with hiring evaluating coaching counseling and disciplining direct reports
Performs or ensures onboarding orientation training and development of employees in the area of responsibility
Assigns work schedules for direct reports by assigning personnel to shifts in the electronic scheduling software that have been established by the Assistant Director according to workload space and equipment availability based on patient care needs and productivity metrics set by department leadership
Ensures that all initial and annual competencies and requirements are met for each direct report
Works closely with the Assistant Director and the Department of People & Culture to manage and address any personnel issues that arise
Serves as a role model for others in the department
Maintains excellent communication professionalism and courtesy at all times
Proactively communicates all information with peers direct reports and supervisor in a timely fashion
Ensures that direct reports have what they need to complete all assigned tasks including tools and training.
Holds employees accountable for following all workflows and procedures that have been established by departmental leadership and that are aligned with institutional departmental and divisional strategic goals
Prioritizes workflow based on patient needs and staffing availability
Oversees the work of technicians student employees and students or residents on rotation
Corrects rather than ignores any problems with operations or medication dispensing and distribution
Helps manage inventory (using oldest/shortest-dated stock first informing buyer of low inventory suggesting strategies for minimizing waste etc.)
Makes suggestions and provides feedback to the Assistant Director on operational and workflow concerns.
As assigned assists with or leads implementations of new workflows to improve safety or efficiency.
Performs formal continuing education for pharmacy staff and/or nursing or other professions (i.e. CE presentations in-services)
Participates in ad hoc training of new staff and students on rotation
Educates patients and hospital staff when needed
Answers questions related to medication distribution
Provides drug information to patients nurses providers other pharmacy staff and the public
Understands and complies with relevant regulatory standards and all departmental policies
Has a thorough knowledge of regulations enforceable standards and best practices for compounded sterile products and hazardous drug handling and practices strict aseptic technique at all times
Documents interventions in the medical record
Reports all patient safety events in the appropriate reporting tool. Follows up on reported patient safety events as appropriate.
Calibrates Repeater pumps when appropriate and documents calibration on the proper log sheet
Performs and documents monthly inspection of assigned medication storage area or ensures that direct reports perform inspections as assigned
Promptly reports to the leader or other appropriate individual if there are any deficiencies or problems with any equipment facilities or drug distribution
Participates in Tier 1 Safety Huddle
Other duties as assigned.
