Were hiring a Senior Statistical Geneticist to join our growing molecular epidemiology division helping us to build refine and expand our genetic data repository and the range ofgenotyping-derivedgenetic data productsweofferto researchers.The successful applicant will apply their methodological and quantitativeexpertisein genetic data analysis to help deliver UKs largest ever health research programme.
The SeniorStatistical Geneticistwillwork withthe Director ofScience and Molecular Epidemiologyto leadprojectsingenerationanalysis anddownstreamuseof genetic dataincluding but not limited to:
- Ideation and development ofmodificationsmethodsand toolstoenhance the resource includingdevelopmentofnewtypes ofgeneticdata products.
- Supportindelivery ofgenetic data related initiatives that require expert-levelknowledge and skills in statistical methodologiesforgenetic data analysis.
- Evaluation ofour data repository in humangeneticsresearch usecases.
- Support otherstatistical geneticistsanddeliveryteamsmanaginggenotyping operationsdevelopingand releasingdata products and enhancingresearcherexperience.
This will require you to:
- Ownthetechnical specification and design history of our custom bead chip genotyping array and the end-to-endhigh-throughputgenotyping assayfordata collection and downstream processing.
- Act as theseniorgeneticsexpertand scientific project leadindelivery ofkeyscientific objectivesbytheLabs-to-Data (L2D) Working Group and theGenetic Data(GD)squad collaborating withlab operations quality assurance data operations programmemanagers productmanagers software and data engineers andother Science team members.
- Lead the design planningand executionofresearchstudiesinpopulation geneticsandgenetic epidemiologyusing Our Future Healthgeneticdatatoevaluatecompare andstress-testtheresourcepipelines platformsand theresearcherenvironment.
- Leadadaptation and development of new research methodologies and materials to support genetic epidemiology work by the team.
- Support otherstatistical geneticists in troubleshooting genetic data resultsbyidentifyingroot causesproposing mitigation strategies andrecommendingpipeline improvementsbased ondeep datainsights.
- Supportdevelopment ofexternally facing datasets documentsand toolsto guideresearcherson the availability and utility of data and samplesand to meet relevant quality and regulatory requirements.
- SupportRecontactandEngagementteams inevaluating participant genotype data forprojects involvingrecall-by-genotypeandfeedbackofgenetics-based health insights.
- Attendnational meetings and conferences both as a representative of Our Future Health and todisseminateresearch findings.
- Demonstrate support oforganisationalcompliance requirements including policies procedures and controls.
RequirementsEssential:
- A PhDwith 5 yearspost-doctoral experience(or equivalent)in statistical geneticsbiostatisticsbioinformaticsgeneticepidemiology or acloselyrelated subject.
- Significantexperience in bioinformatics and analysis of large-scale genetic data including genome-wide association studies multi-ancestry analyses andpolygenic risk scoring methodologies.
- Excellent understanding of statistical concepts and methods in genetics and genetic epidemiology.
- Significant experienceindesigning planning andconducting scientific studies both independently andaspart of an interdisciplinary team.
- Experienceinin-depthraw geneticdata QC analysis.
- Proficiencyinstandardcomputationaltools ofstatisticalgenetics and with programming and scripting languages (e.g.R Python bash)
- Excellent prioritisation and workload management skills.
- Excellentwritten and verbalcommunication skills including the ability tomanageprojectdocumentationpresentcomplexresearchconceptsand resultsto lay audienceandwritescientific manuscripts.
Desirable:
- Experienceinworking with genotyping data
- Experienceinworking withwhole-genomesequencingdata
- Experienceinworking in a product-focused iterative development cycle for data products ortrack recordof building data products in a product-focused agile development environment
