Position Overview:
The American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia (ACLU-GA) seeks to hire a full-time Community Engagement Manager. This position is located in our office in Atlanta and has a hybrid work schedule. ACLU-GA is the state affiliate of the national American Civil Liberties Union. Our mission is to enhance and defend the civil liberties and rights of all Georgians through legal action legislative and community advocacy and civic education and engagement. We are an inclusive nonpartisan statewide organization powered by our members donors and active volunteers. We carry out this mission by working to preserve and expand the individual rights guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution the Georgia Constitution and related federal and state civil rights laws.
The Community Engagement Manager will cultivate and manage a sustainable organizing program tapping into the ACLUs growing network of members supporters and volunteer activists to enhance the organizations advocacy capacity and effectiveness. The position will recruit and develop leaders in local communities to advocate for change and works with coalition partners and civic leaders towards shared initiatives.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develop strategy and action plans including rapid response to advance affiliates policy and issue campaign goals working cross departmentally as needed
- Develop implement and manage strategies to grow the base of ACLU supporters and volunteers who regularly take action in support of the ACLU of Georgias advocacy initiatives
- Manage an active volunteer base to participate in advocacy activities such as during legislative session
- Utilize Every Action/VAN and other volunteer management and advocacy tools to track and analyze volunteer growth and activate supporters to participate in advocacy efforts
- Represent the organization in existing coalitions and help build new coalitions by nurturing alliances with traditional and new allied organizations
- Develop partnerships across the state with leaders of civic and community organizations.
- Manage core activist/volunteer programs such as the Legal Observer program
- Organize both small and large-scale public events statewide to educate and mobilize ACLU supporters and the broader public
- Represent the ACLU of Georgia in public speaking engagements either as a speaker facilitator or attendee
- Produce content for outreach materials including flyers brochures information packets and other publications
- Maintain records and prepare regular reports on program needs developments and accomplishments
- Other duties as assigned
Required Education and Experience:
- At least three of community organizing experience in political legislative or grassroots advocacy campaigns
- Extensive knowledge of grassroots organizing strategies and techniques
- Experience and comfort with digital tools and web-based communication to engage volunteers in organizing campaigns and rapid response
- Experience supervising training and motivating volunteers
- Strong group facilitation coalition building and leadership skills
- Strong proficiency and comfort with multiple technology applications
Desired Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent analytic and communication skills both written and oral
- Ability to work independently and to keep organized in a fast-paced environment manage several projects simultaneously and adjust to frequently changing demands
- Positive up-beat attitude; team player
- A demonstrated commitment to civil liberties and civil rights and an understanding of and appreciation for the ACLUs values mission and goals
- Ability to work with and center historically marginalized or oppressed communities of different cultures and includes having a mature understanding of how structural racism sexism and prejudice against all kinds of marginalized communities pervade our society
- Bilingual is a plus but not required
Hybrid/Remote Office Schedule:
The ACLU of Georgia operates in a hybrid work environment. Staff are required to work in person at the Atlanta office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays each week. Remote work is permitted on other days provided job responsibilities are met. This role also requires evening and weekend work as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of working on a computer
- Lifting requirement of at least 20lbs
Travel Requirements:
- A valid Drivers License and a reliable vehicle
- Willingness to travel statewide and to work irregular hours evenings and weekends as needed
Compensation:
The ACLU of Georgia offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package commensurate with experience and within parameters of the ACLU-GAs compensation scale. The anticipated salary range for this position is $75000-$85000 depending on experience. Excellent benefits include paid vacation sick time and holidays; medical vision and dental insurance; life and long-term disability insurance; Flexible Spending Account; and 401(k) Defined Contribution Retirement.
