The FP&A Operations Finance Business Partner acts as a strategic advisor to the National Vice President of Operations with the goal of optimizing cost structures improving productivity and protecting profitability. With a strong foundation in accounting and a solid understanding of operations this person ensures rigorous cost management effective tracking of key performance indicators and value-driven decision-making across production logistics procurement and cost of goods sold (COGS).

This role also supports the financial period-end closing process when required ensuring accurate and timely reporting of results.

The FP&A Operations Finance Business Partner is also responsible for the accuracy and governance of operational financial results (P&L) and for providing analysis and detailed insights to support operational teams as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

COGS (Cost of Goods Sold) Management

  • Monitor and analyze material labor and overhead variances against standard costs.
  • Support standard cost setting cost roll-ups and Bill of Materials (BOM) accuracy.
  • Partner with accounting to ensure proper inventory valuation and accurate expense recognition.

Operational Performance Analysis

  • Track and report performance indicators related to manufacturing efficiency OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) scrap yield and capacity utilization.
  • Analyze trends in production costs overtime plant downtime and process efficiency.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and operational improvement levers.

Supply Chain and Logistics Support

  • Perform multiple analyses on purchase price variances freight cost per unit and warehouse costs.
  • Support make-or-buy decisions supplier benchmarking and optimization of inbound/outbound flows.
  • Validate logistics-related accruals and coordinate appropriate postings with accounting.

Inventory and Working Capital Management

  • Monitor slow-moving obsolete or excess inventory and support inventory reduction and working capital optimization initiatives.
  • Reconcile inventory movements and cycle count discrepancies with plant controllers.

Budgeting Forecasting and Variance Analysis

  • Lead the budgeting process and rolling forecasts for manufacturing and supply chain operations.
  • Provide cost forecasts by plant product category and resource type.
  • Analyze budget variances and support root cause identification.

Investment Support (CAPEX/OPEX)

  • Support investment projects with cost-benefit analysis and ROI modeling.
  • Ensure capital spending aligns with productivity and cost-saving objectives.
  • Track return on investment and realization of savings from operational projects.

ERP and Data Integrity

  • Ensure the integrity of master data related to cost and inventory.
  • Participate in system upgrades costing runs and ERP testing from a finance perspective.

COMPETENCIES & QUALIFICATIONS

Technical Skills:

  • Strong cost accounting knowledge combined with operational business acumen.
  • Proven ability to constructively challenge and support operations teams.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and ERP systems (SAP Oracle JD Edwards etc.).
  • Comfortable working on the shop floor conducting walkthroughs and validating data.
  • Strong ability to translate financial data into actionable business insights.

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Excellent communication teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic thinker with a solid understanding of operational principles.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with keen attention to detail.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or Industrial Engineering with an accounting focus. CPA or CMA designation required.

Experience: 810 years of experience in finance or cost accounting including at least 2 years supporting operations or plant finance.

  • Experience in manufacturing logistics or supply chain-driven industries required.
  • Strong understanding of standard costing budgeting variance analysis and cost flows.

Languages: Fluency in French and English both spoken and written mandatory. This role involves collaboration with other Canadian sites that operate exclusively in English.
