Job Summary

We have an opening for an Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Postdoctoral Researcher to perform research and development activities in support of laboratory missions. You will support R&D activities in advanced materials and manufacturing as well as materials processing and characterization. This position is in the Materials Engineering Division (MED) within the Engineering Directorate.

This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

You will 

  • Work under limited direction from project leads to carry out research and contribute to the development of photopolymer materials and advanced manufacturing techniques for various applications.
  • Collaborate with other team members in the design formulation development and characterization of moderately complex to complex novel material systems including polymers metals and composites.
  • Conduct experiments utilizing well-defined parameters to collect analyze and synthesize data supporting material development.
  • Work closely with engineers scientists and technicians from LLNL and its collaborators in all aspects of experiment planning execution data collection and analysis.
  • Contribute to project and program milestone completion to ensure project goals are met.
  • Document development activities write reports and deliver project briefings.
  • Share research results with the scientific community by publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at conferences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

 

  • PhD in Materials Engineering Chemical Engineering or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge in one or more of the following areas: photopolymer resin design dual-wavelength and multimaterial resin formulation materials characterization techniques and mechanical optical or electrochemical testing processes.
  • Experience with standard materials characterization methods for studying the optical chemical thermal and mechanical properties of materials including real-time and in-situ methods.
  • Experience with one or more of the following optically driven 3D printing methods: volumetric additive manufacturing stereolithography (SLA) digital light processing (DLP) printing or two-photon polymerization.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and to present and explain technical information.
  • Experience working effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience designing and fabricating moderately complex to complex architected material structures such as lattices or metamaterials.
  • Experience with microfluidics.

Position Information

This is a Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years open to those who have been awarded a PhD at time of hire date.
