Responsibilities
Operates and maintains a variety of tools and equipment including dump trucks container or similar basic trucks single-chassis automotive equipment including waste collection packersutility tractors and trucks with attachments gang and hydraulic mowing units self-loading and vacuum trucks street flushers and heavy trucks with attachments for winter deicing and snow removal. Assists in the construction repair remodeling and maintenance of grounds buildings athletic fields courts and various parks and facilities. Operates air compressors concrete saws pumps flushers sewer rodding machines air hammer sand spreader and various other pneumatic and hand tools. Performs routine maintenance and cleaning on tools and equipment such as checking oil and fluid levels tire pressure lubrication sharpening mower blades and replacing simple parts.
Minimum Qualifications
EducationGraduation from high school (or G.E.D.).
Experience
Must have one year of experience in the operation and routine maintenance ofmoderately heavy equipment or heavy trucks.
License Requirements
Must possess and maintain as a term and condition of continued employment avalid Ohio Class A Commercial Drivers License (C.D.L.) at time of appointment including the qualification tooperate a vehicle with air brakes and any other endorsements required by the State of Ohio. Out of stateresidents must have equivalent licenses from their state of residence.
Promotional Qualifications
Must be a full-time permanent or part-time permanentemployee in pay grade 115 (Wage) or below pay grade 25 (Clerical) or below or equivalent and beenemployed for 6 consecutive months by the City of Dayton in a classified Civil Service position. Identical scoreswill be broken by (1) seniority and (2) random selection method.
Open Competitive Applicants
Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a job-relatedmedical examination and providing documentary evidence of Employment Authorization and Identity. Identicalscores will be broken by a random selection method.
Notes
Examination dates and times are subject to will be provided for the Civil Service examination. Applicants appearing on the Promotional eligible list shall be considered for appointment prior to those on the Open Competitive list.
Applicants are responsible for providing all necessary employment dates experience training or any other requirements as stated in the Exam Announcement in order for their application to be considered for certification and admittance to the examination process.
Background Check
A background investigation is required prior to employment.All candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position including current city employees seeking transfer promotion demotion etc. into a classified position.
Drug and Nicotine Testing
Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a drug screen. Applicants offered employment with the City will be required to pass a nicotine screening. Newly hired employees must remain tobacco and nicotine free as a condition of continued employment. The Tobacco and Nicotine Free Hiring Policy does not apply to current City employees.
