Job Summary

Department Overview

The Biomedical Equipment Technician is a role that ensures the functionality and regulatory compliance of thebiomedical equipment used in organ preservation and procurement. This position will also overseeing themaintenance calibration and operation of essential medical equipment including 6 vascular Kidney andLiver organ preservation pumps multiple biopsy microscopes i-STAT devices TransNet systems andtemperature monitoring systems and more. This position is also responsible for maintaining a sterilecompliant environment for housing the equipment and managing inventory. This includes regular sterilizationof laboratory surfaces and equipment coordination with facilities teams as needed and continuous monitoringof temperature-controlled storage to ensure regulatory compliance. The role also supports full-cycle inventorylogistics including receiving labeling rotating and auditing supplies while maintaining accurate records in theinventory management system and proactively addressing potential shortages or discrepancies in coordinationwith vendors and internal teams.

The role supports the organizations mission by ensuring regularmaintenance regulatory compliance and a safe efficient working environment for life-saving organequipment and devices. This position is required to coordinate and support remote equipment located acrossOregon SW Washington and Idaho.

Function/Duties of Position

Biomedical Equipment Support & Maintenance

  • Perform routine inspections support and coordinate or perform repairs in collaboration with the appropriate vendor on equipment including but notlimited to:
    • Vascular organ perfusion preservation pumps (e.g. for kidneys and livers)
    • UNOS TransNet scanner application and in-field labeling machines
    • Organ tracking systems and devices
    • Biopsy microscopes
    • Dermatoscopes
    • i-STAT portable blood analysis systems
    • Temperature gauges
    • Zero-pressure rooms
    • Other laboratory equipment as needed
  • Coordinate with external vendors OHSU facilities and field engineers for advanced repairs upgrades and preventive maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate records for all maintenance activities service logs and recall notices; ensure documentation compliance with OPTN CMS and FDA regulatory standards.
  • Participate in equipment installations and educate clinical users on safe operation calibration checks and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure the corresponding equipment software is up to date perform and/or coordinate software updates with CLA tech support clinical staff or vendor to ensure all equipment software across the state is updated in a timely manner.
  • Act as primary point of contact with the vendor for all equipment corresponding software inventory product and other CLA depts.
  • Prepare and manage maintenance logs for internal and external audits.
  • Monitor record and audit temperature logs for refrigerators freezers and ensure all devices are calibrated and functioning within accepted limits.

Laboratory Environment & Inventory Management

  • Maintain a clean sterile and organized laboratory environment; perform sterilization of equipment surfaces and coordinate with OHSU facilities asneeded.
  • Support inventory logistics: receive stock label rotate and dispose of supplies and reagents per protocol; maintain accurate par levels; adjustordering practices to minimize waste.
  • Ensure compliance with hazardous materials handling including training in the use of chemicals and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Coordinate deliveries with vendors and internal departments for the distribution of lab and organ recovery supplies.
  • Track and reconcile incoming shipments including verifying product quantity expiration dates and lot numbers; delegate or report discrepancies ordamaged goods.
  • Maintain inventory management system with up-to-date entries for restocks returns usage and transfers.
  • Perform regular full inventory audits; identify and resolve inventory variances in coordination with procurement and quality teams.
  • Cultivate and maintain vendor relationships to identify supply chain risks or recurring shortages and proactively communicate needs to clinical teams andleadership.

Required Qualifications

  • An Associates degree in Biomedical Equipment TechnologyOR

  • Certification by ICC/USCC as a Certified BMETOR

  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.

Job Related KnowledgeSkills and Abilities(Competencies):

  • Comfort working in environments with variable physical demands including lifting transporting and prolonged standing
  • Ability to follow written procedures maintain accurate records and support internal audits or inspections.
  • Experience working independently and collaboratively in fast-paced or regulated environments.
  • Ability to handle destroy or dispose of sensitive information including Restricted Information and Patient Health Information as is required by HIPAA and OHSU policy.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hazardous material handling training and/or laboratory safety certification
  • Experience in an Organ Procurement Organization
  • Experience in healthcare technology or equipment
  • Experience with federal regulatory bodies auditing or ensuring regulatory compliance in a health care setting.
  • 2 years of experience in healthcare laboratory or regulated medical setting
  • Experience with inventory management systems
  • Experience drafting procedures job aids or policies or maintaining regulatory documentation.
  • Completion of a Laboratory Assistant or Technician training program with clinical experience
  • Experience with equipment sterilization temperature control monitoring or disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Experience with supply chain support vendor communications receiving orders responding to recalls par systems warehouse logistics or inventory systems.
  • Experience performing or supporting routine equipment checks maintenance logs or calibration tracking.
  • Experience with handling clinical specimens biological waste or sensitive medical devices.
  • Experience using personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with safety protocols for handling biological materials hazardous chemicals and sterilized environments.

Additional Details

Pay Range:$35.46 - $48.68 per hour (Commensurate with qualifications experience and internal equity)
