Job Summary

POSITION PURPOSE: To provide the students with a safe attractive comfortable clean andefficient place in which to learn play and develop through a variety of tasks involving general care of building and grounds.

QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or years of age or older.

FLSA CLASSIFICATION:Non-Exempt; Part-time; Temporary

SCHEDULE:Position to begin as soon as October 30 2025. Monday-Friday 6 hours per day. Shift begins at 2:30pm and ends at 9: of three weeks but could be more.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  2. Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively
  3. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions with limited supervision
  4. Ability to use cleaning materials and equipment with skill efficiency and safety; ability tocare for different types of building surfaces
  5. Ability to learn to properly operate heating and cooling equipment
  6. Familiarity with handling and disposal of hazardous materials
  7. Ability to demonstrate standards of moral character and behavior to serve as an effective model for students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Clean areas of the school as assigned (i.e. classrooms bathrooms halls offices rest rooms cafeteriakitchen gymnasium etc.) sweep scrub vacuum mop dusting etc.
  2. Sweep walks and entrances and pick up debris on the grounds.
  3. Wash scrub disinfect rest rooms daily and clean all sanitary fixtures door panels and drinking fountains daily
  4. Clean up spills
  5. Pick up trash
  6. Report safety sanitary and fire hazards to the proper authority
  7. Be responsible for locking doors and windows turning out lights and securing building as assigned
  8. Check daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bars are working properly during the hours of building occupancy
  9. Set out road barriers to prepare for student pick-up. Put the barriers away after designated time.
  10. Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with student and staff information
  11. Act as a friendly ambassador for the Houston R-I School District
  12. Maintains satisfactory attendance as defined in District policy and regulations
  13. Assist with seasonal grounds work such as snow ice and leaf removal
  14. Restock disposable items such as soap and paper towels

KEY SKILLS/CHARACTERISTICS:
1. Read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals in English
2. Ability to add subtract multiply and divide using units of American money weight volume and distance.
3. Perform physical requirements which may include:

a. Moderate to extensive degree of physical stamina and frequent
b. lifting up to 50 lbs. and occasional lifting up to 100 lbs.
c. Ability to lift and move furniture desks shelving staging and cleaning supplies
d. Ability to operate buffers scrubbers vacuum cleaners and other equipment
e. Ability to climb ladders stretching and bending to perform cleaning repairs painting and cleaning of roofs gutters and drains
f. Ability to walk to various locations within the school building and the grounds
g. Ability to work primarily in a standing position
h. Possible exposure to bodily fluids in cleaning due to student injury or illness
