Rate: $17.38/hour

General Purpose of Position
Performs a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks in the care and maintenance of city facilities
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Provides departmental support
- Reports maintenance or repair problems out of his scope of ability to appropriate supervisor and coordinates with contract employees or city engineer for repairs
- Opens and closes locks and unlocks facilities as needed
- Keeps records of work completed
- May serve on various employee committees as required or assigned
- Moves and sets up furniture pictures etc. as needed or assigned
Performs maintenance tasks for buildings
- Performs minor semi-skilled interior building maintenance and repairs such as painting floor covering plumbing carpentry mechanical ceiling tile replacement and other unskilled and semi-skilled trades work
- Inspects and maintains assigned custodial equipment and small tools for proper operating condition
- Maintains current skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of building maintenance
- Changes light bulbs and fluorescent tubes as needed
- Fills soda machines and stocks break room
Performs cleaning tasks for buildings
- Sweeps vacuums mops dusts shampoos steam cleans strips waxes polishes and buffs floors carpets and furniture etc.
- Dumps ash scans and garbage cans and replaces liners
- Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and replenishes supplies; cleans spills; cleans drinking fountains mirrors tables walls fixtures blinds light fixtures etc.
- Washes windows walls metal and woodwork
- Cleans rain gutters; sweeps roofs and sidewalks. Clears ice snow from sidewalks when needed
- Picks up litter and debris from around buildings and grounds
- Cleans cells as per standard operating procedure
- Performs other duties as directed
Requirements
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent or any combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work
Licenses and Certifications
- A valid drivers license is preferred
- Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Equipment materials and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance
- Citys purchasing policies and procedures
- Basic maintenance methods of buildings and equipment
- Basic equipment maintenance and repair
- Proper materials and equipment needed for projects
- Equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs
- First aid and applicable safety precautions
Skills and Abilities
- Determine work needed from visual inspections
- Use common sense
- Pay attention to detail
- Complete detailed work accurately
