Job Duties
The Judicial Inquiry & Review Commission of Virginia is an independent commission created by the Constitution of Virginia to investigate charges of judicial misconduct or serious mental or physical disability. The Commission is composed of seven members elected by the General Assembly and employs a staff to assist in the investigation of complaints of misconduct against all state court judges members of the State Corporation Commission and members of the Virginia Workers Compensation Commission. Assistant Counsel provides support for Commission Counsel in serving as the Commissions attorney.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Assistant Counsel will assist Commission Counsel. Specific duties include screening investigating and evaluating complaints of ethical violations by Virginia judges; providing ethics advice to judges upon request; and conducting ethics presentations at judicial conferences. The position requires skill in interacting with the public and officials in all branches of state government.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must be members in good standing with the Virginia State Bar with at least 10 years experience.
Additional Considerations
Significant trial and appellate experience is preferred.
