The Position:
TheUpper School program at Havergal College is distinguished by opportunities forstudents to develop and learn in an environment that is diverse stimulatingand supportive. Teaching facilities are well equipped and offer brighttechnology-rich environments.
Teachers at Havergal College are confident incurriculum development and demonstrate an approach to teaching that isreflective and understanding that students learn through active intellectualengagement. Teachers are also driven todevelop strong caring professional relationships with students and understandthat a healthy student-teacher relationship drives successful learning anddevelopment.
Specific Accountabilities:
- Implements lesson plans provided by the musicteacher ensuring the integrity of the program is maintained and takes placewithin the allotted time frame;
- Demonstrates effective classroom management;
- Understands and follows relevant school procedures(e.g. attendance supervision) including emergency procedures;
- Reports all student injuries accidents illnessesand discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon asis reasonably possible;
- Completes a Supply Teacher Report Form;
- Performs other related duties as assigned by theDirector of Academics in accordance with school policies and practices.
Qualifications Knowledge and Experience
- Relevantuniversity qualifications at the Bachelor level (e.g. Bachelor of Music)including a Bachelor of Education/Master of Teaching degree withIntermediate/Senior qualifications in Instrumental or Vocal Music.
- Certification from the Ontario College of Teachersand be a member in Good Standing;
- Non-practicum music teaching or ensemble directorexperience is an asset;
- High level musical knowledge and proficiency on amusical instrument;
- A comprehensive understanding of the current Ministryof Ontario curriculum;
- Strong interpersonal organizational time-managementand communication skills;
- Well-developed classroom management skills and
- The ability to take direction and to be open tofeedback.
