What you will be doing:
As an Engineering Assistant 1/2 Flex in the Aviation Design Group you will be responsible for performing a variety of engineering duties at the pre-licensure level under the supervision of a registered professional engineer. You will specialize in the design of airport improvement projects throughout central and western Alaska that range in complexity from small gravel-surfaced airports in rural Alaska to paved runways taxiways and aprons for some of the worlds largest aircraft at international airports and may occasionally design small highway projects.
If selected you would be part of a five-member team consisting of a registered lead engineer three engineering assistants and a drafting technician with the task of developing designs and bid-ready documents using AutoCAD Civil3D and other design software.Our organization mission and culture:

As an Engineering Assistant 1/2 Flex you will be designing runways taxiways aprons developing plan sets editing specifications performing quantity takeoffs cost estimating and writing technical reports to assist with the ultimate success of transportation improvement projects. You will collaborate with the design team to develop designs and prepare bid-ready documents which will be provided to Contractors to successfully execute capital improvement projects in Central Region thereby delivering the mission.

If selected your position would reside in a cubicle in the Aviation Design Section of the DOT&PF Central Region Headquarters building in Anchorage AK located at 4111 Aviation Ave. The building is located on the shores of Lake Hood and is across from the Ted Stevens International Airport and is easily accessible by a paved multi-use path and People Mover routes 40 and 65. This office building is generally comprised of cubicle space and organized by departmental sections and teams. Office hours and schedules have some flexibility and travel to project sites may be required for short durations.
