Job Description
Reporting to the Supervisory Project Manager (SPM) the Project Manager (PM) will lead
execution of multiple assigned capital outlay projects from conception through completion using a variety of contracting methods. Projects range from moderate to advanced difficulty andcomplexity. The PM will also represent Virginia Tech (VT) during the design/construction process serving as the owners primary contact and maintaining the following primary responsibilities:
- manage and coordinate the project team (Architect/Engineering (A/E) teams consultants
contractors stakeholders etc.)
- provide support to VT leadership to achieve successful project outcomes
- ensure design and construction maximizes program goals while conforming to the projects
established criteria for scope cost schedule and quality
- coordinate the involvement of all participants in the design value management document review construction occupancy close out warranty and financial management processes.
Required Qualifications
-Advanced degree from an accredited college or university in Architecture Engineering or
Building Construction; OR training and work experience at a level that equates to an advanced
degree.
- Working knowledge of site/building design and construction processes.
- Demonstrated ability and experience in managing new construction and major renovation
projects of high complexity from concept through completion.
- Excellent communications team building organizational negotiation project management
and records management skills.
- Ability to create and manage a team to meet project goals.
- Proven customer service skills.
- Ability to interpret design/construction documents and effectively administer contracts.
- Ability to read/interpret construction schedules.
- Knowledge of building codes and construction means and methods.
- Must have a valid drivers license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Registered Professional Engineer or Architect in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Experience in public procurement and administrative processes.
- Higher education facilities experience.
- Strong mechanical electrical and plumbing experience.
- Experience with project management software (ex. SharePoint MS Office web-based project
management platforms etc.).

This is a full-time calendar year restricted appointment which may be renewed annually. However there is no presumption of renewal for this appointment. Continuation of this appointment even during the initial year is subject to the availability of funds the need for services and satisfactory performance.
