Our team provides solutions for Research Data Management (RDM) in High-Performance and Cloud Computing and facilitates data-driven workflows with RDM across different computing systems. We are looking for a reinforcement in various current and upcoming projects in particular the EU-funded (Horizon Europe) Extreme Analytics for Mining Data Spaces () and the National Research Data Infrastructure Consortium Earth System Sciences (). EXA4MIND brings together optimum database and storage set-ups supercomputing and data-sharing ecosystems for analytics NFDI4Earth the focus is on harmonising (meta-)data and workflow management approaches in the Earth System this position you have the opportunity to work with systems throughout the computing continuum from High-Performance Computing (HPC) clusters over Cloud systems and possibly even Internet-of-Things devices.

Your Role and Responsibilities:
  • set-upof optimum databases and data middleware for data-heavy workflows involving AI and supercomputing (iRODS MINIO/S3Proxy/VersityGW);
  • implementationof computational workflows and data flows using Apache Airflow on Cloud-Computing and HPC systems;
  • advancingand monitoring FAIR RDM in the Earth System Sciences (ESS) by user surveys and support and by co-developing a service architecture with NFDI4Earth;
  • mergingthe experiences from the tasks above to support Environmental-Science workflows involving various data sinks and sources as well as (super-)computing systems;
  • publicationsand reporting from the projects and contributions to follow-up research ideas;
  • contributingto the administration of our systems (virtual machines containers).
Basic Qualifications:
  • Mastersdegree (with thesis) or PhD in computer science electrical engineering physics geology hydrology environmental sciences or any natural science.
  • System management and scripting:
  1. severalyears of experience with Linux and fluency on the command line (bash)
  2. fluencyand experience in Python
  3. basicfamiliarity with virtualization frameworks (Openstack Docker etc.)
  4. basicfamiliarity with databases object storage (in particular S3) and NFS;
  5. familiaritywith source-code management (github gitlab).
  • Familiaritywith the concept of a RESTful API.
  • C1-level knowledge of English.
  • A2-level knowledge or higher of German.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experiencewith the administration of complex IT platforms.
  • Familiaritywith CI/CD workflows.
  • Basicknowledge of web hosting and web technologies (Apache Nginx).
  • Experiencewith simulation workflows in research High-Performance Computing / Data Analytics (HPC/HPDA).
