Job Duties
Answer telephone with three incoming lines route calls and take accurate messages as needed. Phone coverage is crucial and is a priority for reinforcing the image of the House Appropriations Committee as knowledgeable and responsive to requests for assistance.
Greet in person visitors and provide assistance as needed.
Advise HAC staff if someone wants to see them. Be pleasant at all times but always control the flow of traffic to Legislators and staff offfices.
Proficiency with computers office equipment the internet and Microsoft Office is required.
Help staff analysts with details for all upcoming subcommittee meetings as requested.
Maintain office equipment and supplies.
Assist with preparations for Committee meetings.
Monitor and track Legislative Bills as they are assigned to the Committee.
Other duties as assigned by the Office Manager.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications:
It is critical that the Administrative Assistant is a committed team player and willing to assist
in any way.
Previous administrative support experience in a fast-paced office environment is required
along with strong communication (both oral & written) data entry research organizational
editing/proofreading and customer service skills as well as being a quick learner thinker and
problem solver.
Will act as a goodwill ambassador and gatekeeper for the Appropriations Committee and
present a positive first impression while always greeting everyone with a smile so that visitors
feel welcome.
Needs to be flexible in the work addition to the normal daily coverage it is
sometimes necessary to stay beyond regular working hours with little notice or to work
occasional weekend hours during the Sessions busiest periods.
Should be able to prioritize daily tasks (both planned and unexpected) and finish assignments
within the required time available with minimal supervision.
Additional Considerations
This is a full-time temporary non-partisan position which will start on December 8 2025 and end on March 20 2026. The position is located on site at the General Assembly Building in downtown Richmond. Parking is provided at a cost of $49 per month.
