Job Summary

Column Technical Services is seeking a highly experienced PostgreSQL Database Specialist to provide remote part-time support for our application through proactive database audits and real-time performance troubleshooting. This role requires deep expertise in PostgreSQL 15 and PG Pool-II for load balancing high availability and performance optimization. The ideal candidate will work closely with our teams to ensure database reliability scalability and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Proactive Auditing: Conduct regular audits of PostgreSQL databases to identify potential risks inefficiencies and areas for improvement.
Real-Time Performance Support: Respond to live performance issues diagnose root causes and implement solutions with minimal disruption.
Load Balancing Expertise: Configure and manage PG Pool-II for efficient query routing connection pooling and failover handling.
Replication & HA: Maintain robust replication setups and high availability configurations to ensure data consistency and uptime.
Monitoring & Alerts: Set up and fine-tune monitoring tools (e.g. Prometheus Grafana pgAdmin) to track performance metrics and alert on anomalies.
Backup & Recovery: Validate and improve backup strategies including Point-in-Time-Recovery (PITR) pgbasebackup and pgdump.
Collaboration: Partner with development and infrastructure teams to support deployments schema changes and capacity planning.

Qualifications:

Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL 15 in production environments.
Proven expertise in PG Pool-II configuration and management.
Solid understanding of replication High Availability (HA) and disaster recovery strategies.
Experience with performance tuning and query optimization.
Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools.
Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills.
