As a member of the Health and Safety Team the ERT (Emergency Response Team) Coordinator will report to the Superintendent Health & Safety and work a two (2) week on two (2) week off rotation at the Ekati mine site. The ERT (Emergency Response Team) Coordinator will work across all departments supporting operational activities by ensuring that Risk and Safety standards and processes are developed and implemented. This position is expected to interact frequently in the field (50/50 field and office time) at all levels of the organization. This role will support the planning coordination and execution of emergency response activities.
Assist with the development and review of comprehensive emergency response plans;
Facilitate and participate in incident/accident investigations and risk assessments identifying potential emergency scenarios;
Develop and promote the adoption of new safety training programs and practices while maintaining a strong base of core safety practices;
Organize and conduct regular emergency response training for all site personnel.
Maintain and update emergency response equipment and supplies;
Provide field health and safety support in both surface and underground areas assistance and subject matter expertise to all levels of the organization to ensure the achievement of the company safety objectives;
Participate and promote regular and effective communication regarding risk and safety to all levels of the organization;
Aid in safety program development workplace inspections hazard identification developing procedures and facilitation or presentation of training programs;
Knowledge and the ability to maintain awareness of current WSCC NT Mines ACT CCOHS CSA and relevant standards;
Promote the reporting of all Health and Safety incidents and non-conformances and lead/facilitate in the identification of root causes corrective and preventative actions using tools such as 5 Whys and the root cause analysis method (TapRooT);
Strong knowledge of emergency response procedures and safety regulations;
Strong leadership skills and ability to create a positive collaborative work environment;
Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communications;
Self-motivated able to work independently prioritize multiple tasks;
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an emergency response coordinator preferably in a mining or industrial setting;
Mine Rescue Instructor certification NWT Canada
Qualification in High Angle Rescue Fire Fighting Spill Response Vehicle Extraction and First Aid;
Proficient in Microsoft and experience with Health and Safety software program;
Possess already or be in active pursuit of formal certification in Health and Safety or a combination of current Health and Safety related courses and direct safety professional experience in OHS;
Ability to qualify for or possess Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certification;
5 years mining or industry related experience as a safety professional;
Current TapRooT certification is considered an asset;
Physically able to climb stairs walk long distances and lift items up to 40 lbs. at periodic intervals;
Experience related to the control of occupational exposures in mining is a benefit;
Able to communicate effectively with employees and supervisors of all levels and be solutions oriented;
Strong organizational skills and proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word Excel PowerPoint etc.).
