Job Summary

The New York City Housing Authoritys Law Department seeks an experienced attorney to litigate significant and complex employment discrimination and fair housing matters before state and federal courts and administrative agencies and to advise other departments on policy issues such as program eligibility and reasonable accommodations for tenants and employees with disabilities.

Under supervision of the Director and Chief of General Litigation responsibilities include:

employment and fair housing matters having significant legal policy and/or financial implications in state and federal courts including fact investigation discovery motion practice trial and appeal.
pleadings legal memoranda and other documents.
for oral argument before trial and appellate courts.
and draft settlement/conciliation agreements.
outside counsel.
to Article 78 appeals from administrative determinations concerning tenancy-termination applicant eligibility succession rights Section 8 benefits and employment termination.
and prepare answers and position statements responding to housing and employment discrimination charges filed with the New York State Division of Human Rights City Commission on Human Rights U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development.
legal research on various issues.
other agency departments on policy issues.
matters before administrative law judges.
other related duties.

Qualifications :

Admission to the New York State Bar; and four years of recent full-time responsible relevant satisfactory legal experience subsequent to admission to any bar eighteen months of which must have been in the supervision of other attorneys in an administrative managerial or executive capacity or performing highly complex and significant legal work.

Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.
