Description/Qualifications
General Description
The Billing Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and supporting the daily operations of the billing department while also performing billing tasks as a working supervisor. This role ensures accurate and timely submission of claims resolution of denials and reconciliation of payments. The Supervisor will provide leadership coaching and training to the billing team while maintaining hands-on knowledge of all billing functions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
Supervise support and evaluate a team of three Billing Specialists.
Provide training coaching and mentorship to ensure staff success and professional growth.
Monitor workloads set priorities and ensure deadlines are met.
Foster a collaborative and accountable team environment.
Create and maintain working relationships with provider support from payers
Billing Operations (Working Supervisor Duties)
Learn and perform all aspects of the billing process including eligibility verification authorizations claim submission denial resolution and payment reconciliation.
Ensure Oregon Health Plan (OHP) and special contracts are current and up to date
Oversee weekly billing of OHP and private insurance claims.
Oversee monthly billing of special contracts including Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) Child Welfare.
Ensure accuracy of claim batches remittances and reconciliations.
Research and correct failed claims and denials in the electronic medical record and payer systems.
Monitor accounts receivable and support collection processes.
Prepare billing statements invoices and reports as required.
Compliance & Process Improvement
Ensure compliance with payer requirements contracts agency policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Develop and update billing procedures to improve accuracy and efficiency.
Collaborate with finance and program leadership to identify and resolve billing issues.
Generate reports and provide updates to the CFO on billing performance and trends.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in healthcare administration accounting or related field preferred.
Minimum of three years of healthcare or behavioral health billing experience.
At least one year of supervisory or lead experience or demonstrated ability to lead a team.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel Word) and electronic medical record systems.
Strong knowledge of payer rules Medicaid/OHP billing and denial management.
Familiarity with provider contracting and credentialing a plus.
