Job Summary

The Position:

The Junior School program at Havergal College isdistinguished by opportunities for students to develop and learn in anenvironment that is diverse stimulating and supportive. Teaching facilitiesare well equipped and offer bright technology-rich environments.

An experienced Primary/Junior French teacher atHavergal College is confident in curriculum development and demonstrate anapproach to teaching that is reflective of the way in which girls learn. We are seeking a teacher whois not just an expert in their field but who possess a genuine infectious passionfor the French language and Francophone cultures. Our teachers arededicated to inspiring young women to move beyond vocabulary and grammar fosteringa deep lifelong appreciation for French as a medium of connection creativityand global citizenship. They will support all learners with diversestrategies and approaches and are willing and able to use appropriate solutionsto learning challenges experienced by students. Teachers optimize the use ofthe technology to support student learning. Classes are engaging and dynamicand teachers genuinely enjoy what they are doing and are approachableavailable knowledgeable genuine and supportive.

As members of the Junior School faculty teachersengage in the work of the Junior School in a collegial and supportive demonstrate an understanding of the importance of parents as partners intheir daughters education by maintaining open and collaborative relationshipswith parents. As life-long learners they demonstrate a commitment to activelyseeking professional development. Teachers actively participate in the life ofthe school beyond the classroom.

Specific Accountabilities:

Planning and Preparation of Learning

  • Understandhow to use knowledge of student developmental stages and current educationalresearch to make appropriate and thoughtful instructional decisions.
  • Developeffective long range unit and lesson plans that demonstrate the principles ofa teaching for understanding framework and reflect the Ontario curriculumexpectations.
  • Demonstratean understanding of assessment principles reflective of current assessmentpractices;
  • Work incollaboration with other faculty to develop integrated units of study.
  • Model bestpractices with using technology in the classroom to help support the curriculumand the developmental stages of students.

Setting the Learning Environment

  • Demonstratecompassion acceptance insight and interest for developing students potentialand capacity.
  • Model theschools values through actions and words when dealing with students parentsand other adults in the school.
  • Demonstratean understanding that students learn through active intellectual engagement.
  • Create atrusting learning environment for students through acting consistently fairlyopenly and honestly and having clear expectations for all students.
  • Ensureappropriate behavior in the classroom and on school property.
  • Create alearning environment where student thinking is visible valued and part oftheir everyday experiences.
  • Create a safeand engaging learning space reflective of the developmental needs of students.

Instructional Practices

  • Ensureinstructional practices are reflective of advanced planning and preparation andthe time that is available.
  • Ensurequestions and instructional strategies help to promote student thinking andserve to extend their understanding knowledge and skills.
  • Use relevantpedagogy assessment and evaluation along with resources and technology in theplanning for and responding to the individual needs of students.
  • Ensurestudent learning is appropriately documented and reported.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Uphold theprofessional and ethical standards of practice as defined by the OntarioCollege of Teachers.
  • Activelyparticipate in professional growth activities (membership in professionallearning communities completing professional reading setting professionallearning goals).
  • Maintain consistentprofessional supporting and encouraging relationships with colleagues.
  • Ensurecompliance with all school policies and practices and maintain all requireddocumentation.
  • Maintain anopen line of communication with parents and work with them as partners in theirdaughters educational journey.
  • Activelyparticipate in the life of the school outside of the classroom.

QualificationsKnowledge and Experience

  • Relevantuniversity qualifications at the Bachelor level in French including a Bachelorof Education/Master of Teaching with Primary/Junior qualifications.
  • Certificationfrom the Ontario College of Teachers and a member in Good Standing.
  • Relevantteaching experience within a classroom setting.
  • Understandingof how to apply the current research on girls and learning.
  • Knowledge ofdiffering learning needs and strategies for supporting all kinds of learners.
  • A commitmenttoward continued professional development and growth.
  • Stronginterpersonal organizational time-management and communication skills.
  • Self-starterable to work in a self-directed manner appropriate to changing needs.
  • A provencommitment to working successfully in collaborative environments.
  • Experience inan independent school is an asset.
  • Energycommitment and a readiness to participate in the co-curricular program and the diverse life of the school community.
