This position serves on the Industrial Claim Appeals Panel which conducts administrative appellate review of decisions issued pursuant to the Colorado Workers Compensation Act and the Colorado Employment Security Act. The position reviews decisions of the lower authorities drafts orders and provides administrative appellate review of workers compensation and unemployment insurance matters. Duties include reviewing of records and hearings officers and writing clear and concise appellate decisions in accordance with applicable law.
The position includes supervisory and director level job duties including: supervisory duties establishing unit goals policies and procedures; overseeing unit operations; managing budget and approving expenditures; working to resolve legal disagreements among Panel members with collaboration and collegiality to reach a consensus. The position requires reviewing decisions of and appeals to the Colorado Court of Appeals determining if legal representation is needed and consulting with Assistant Attorneys General on pending cases. The position will serve on department committees and attend senior staff meetings participating in agency planning and establishment of agency policies and procedures.Residency Requirement:

Graduation from an accredited law school
Five (5) years of experience practicing law (legal experience acquired after admission to the bar) three (3) of which must have included experience appropriate to the work assignment and qualified candidates shall have been licensed to practice law in the State of Colorado for five (5) years
Experience in workers compensation and in litigation
Experience in Unemployment Insurance and in litigation.
Experience in appellate practice before state or federal appeals courts
Clerkship for appellate or trial court
Experience managing either a public sector work unit or a private law practice
Knowledge of existing workers compensation and unemployment case law (from prior ICAO Colorado Court of Appeals and Colorado Supreme Court decisions). Ability to work remotely. Ability to use electronic word processing software. Ability to write clearly. Ability to Interact with staff and colleagues.
Must be a Colorado resident at time of application.
