Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a current Louisiana Sanitarians license plus one of the following:
Four years of experience as a sanitarian; OR
A masters degree in public health food science dairy science environmental or sanitary science or one of the physical or biological sciences plus three years of experience as a sanitarian.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in the Molluscan Shellfish program require that applicants complete the Louisiana Boating Education program and be certified by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
- Plans implements and evaluates all environmental health services within the parish ensuring compliance with state and federal public health regulations.
- Supervises and directs sanitarian staff setting performance expectations conducting evaluations approving leave and travel and providing technical guidance and training.
- Oversees administrative operations including preparation of reports maintenance of records and management of applications permits and fees for environmental health programs.
- Performs field inspections and investigations related to food safety drinking water sewer systems and other environmental health concerns; recommends corrective actions when violations are found.
- Coordinates and leads post-disaster response efforts for parish sanitarian services ensuring staff readiness and rapid deployment when needed.
- Collaborates with regional and local officials provides consultation to the public and participates in public health outreach enforcement proceedings and community environmental health initiatives.
