Job Description

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director of Career Development College of the Arts (CART) the Career Advisor supports the implementation of a comprehensive inclusive student-centered career development program that prepares students in the fine and performing arts for success in an evolving creative economy. The Career Advisor provides individualized and group-based career counseling facilitates career education workshops and connects students to experiential learning opportunities including internships and cooperative education experiences. This role plays a key part in enhancing student career readiness through resume and portfolio reviews job/internship search strategies and employer engagement initiatives. The Career Advisor collaborates with faculty employers alumni and campus partners to increase access to meaningful professional opportunities. A strong emphasis is placed on serving students from diverse backgrounds promoting equity in career development and equipping students with tools to explore a wide range of creative career pathways.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver career advising and support for undergraduate and graduate students as well as alumni including assistance with self-assessments resumes cover letters personal statements job and internship search strategies interview preparation and graduate school planning.

  • Coordinate the cooperative education and internship program including outreach student support and employer engagement.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Career Development to build strong relationships with department chairs program directors and faculty to integrate career development into academic programs.

  • Support the creation and delivery of career exploration and networking opportunities through alumni employer and recruiter engagement.

  • Designs and delivers career workshops presentations and signature events that promote student engagement and career readiness.

  • Help students understand and articulate the value of their arts education in relation to evolving market trends and career opportunities both within and beyond traditional art fields.

  • Support efforts to increase student participation in career development services and experiential learning opportunities.

  • Supervise student workers supporting the Career Development Office.

  • Represent CART Career Services at admissions events new student orientations and campus committees as needed.

  • Participate in university-wide initiatives to ensure the alignment and quality of career development services.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Management retains the right to change or add job duties at any time.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:

  • Masters degree from an accredited college/university.

  • Minimum three years of professional experience in career counseling within higher education.

  • Experience supporting students with cooperative education internships resume development job search strategies and graduate school planning.

  • Strong knowledge of career readiness frameworks and inclusive career development practices with an understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities faced by first-generation students.

  • Competency in Microsoft Suite and Google Workspace (Docs Sheets Slides etc.)

  • Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication skills. with the ability to engage effectively with diverse populations of students faculty employers and campus partners.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills; ability to prioritize and perform effectively in a fast-paced high-volume environment.

  • Commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.

  • Availability to work evening and weekend to support events programming and student engagement initiatives as needed.


PREFERRED:

  • Professional or academic experience in an arts-related discipline. (e.g. visual arts performing arts design or related creative industry) with an understanding of the career development needs specific to arts students.

  • Familiarity with labor market trends portfolio development and non-traditional career pathways relevant to fine and performing arts students.

  • Experience using career services technology platforms (e.g. Handshake Big Interview Focus2 etc.) for service delivery reporting and employer engagement.

  • Knowledge of assessment strategies for evaluating student outcomes and program effectiveness.

  • Familiarity with local regional and national job markets.

Salary Range

$73899.90-$77593.35 Annually
