Shred the Gnar & Shape the Future: UMF Athletics Seeks Freeski/Snowboard Assistant Coach!

Are you passionate about carving lines and developing the next generation of collegiate winter sports athletes The University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) is looking for a dynamic and dedicated Assistant Coach to join our thriving varsity Freeski & Snowboard team!

Our program is exploding in popularity with team rosters more than doubling over the past three years. To provide the specialized attention our athletes deserve we are creating this new position to ensure our Freeski and Snowboard teams have dedicated coaching leadership. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact and build a legacy with a growing and energetic program.

Position: This is a part-time seasonal in-person position based at our campus in Farmington ME.

Schedule: The coaching season runs from October 15 to April 15.

Compensation: The position compensates up to a $4000 stipend which is paid biweekly throughout the season. (prorated based on start date)

Your Role on the Mountain

As a key member of our athletics staff you will be instrumental in the success and development of our student-athletes. Your duties will be diverse and action-packed including:

  • Providing expert on-hill coaching during both training and competitions.
  • Designing and planning strategic training sessions.
  • Developing scouting reports and competitive strategies.
  • Mentoring athletes focusing on both player and leadership development.
  • Coordinating team travel including transportation and meals.
  • Assisting with strength and conditioning programs.
  • Identifying and recruiting talented future athletes to join the UMF family.
Who Were Looking For
  • Were seeking a candidate with impeccable integrity a deep understanding of the sport and a passion for mentoring.

Required Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience with the skills and principles of competitive freeskiing and/or snowboarding.
  • Valid drivers license (in good standing based on UMS standards)
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule that includes days evenings and weekends for practices and competitions.
  • Demonstrated professionalism dependability and strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A bachelors degree.
  • Previous collegiate competitive or coaching experience particularly in freeski.
  • Experience with sports recruiting.
  • USSA or PSIA Certification.
