Main Function
Responsible for managing all aspects of underwriting for the medical professional liability of new and renewal hospitals and physicians for the Illinois Provider Trust (IPT) and Medical Alliance Insurance Company (MAIC). Develop new business opportunities for MAIC to profitably grow the book of business. Manage IHAs agency brokerage for Directors and Officers and miscellaneous professional liability programs.
Outline of Responsibilities
- Implement underwriting strategy and work cooperatively with claims risk management and actuarial staff in the evaluation of risks for inclusion in MAIC and IPT and to assure appropriate pricing of risks
- Oversee the new and renewal underwriting process including rating assistance with treaty and facultative reinsurance placement communication of contribution/premium to members/insureds and issuance of all coverage documents
- Operate in accordance with Letter of Authority for MAIC new and renewal business
- Serve as a resource to members and insured regarding coverage and exposure issues
- Develop new business and renewal retention strategies
- Develop and implement underwriting guidelines and workflow processes for department and Underwriting Coordinator
- Supervision of Underwriting Coordinator
- Management of IHAs agency Directors and Officers and miscellaneous professional liability program brokerage business including renewal solicitations; marketing coverage; analyzing quotes; presentation of renewal proposals to clients; invoicing; taxes as applicable; and policy review
- Collaborate with internal departments including IT and corporate finance to identify and implement process improvements
- Other duties as defined
Qualifications
Bachelors degree and minimum of 10-12 years of underwriting decision-making experience preferable for medical professional lines required; Masters preferred. Strong analytical and organizational skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills with internal and external customers. Problem solving and decision making skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel. Routine travel is required.

Pay Range: $169026 to $253539 annually actual compensation is dependent on job-related factors such as experience education skills and qualifications for the role.
