Job Summary

The Department of Pathology is seeking a Revenue Cycle Coordinator (working title: Outreach Compliance and Billing Support Supervisor) to provide comprehensive operational compliance and financial oversight for the Department of Pathologys outreach billing program. This role partners closely with departmental leadership and Health Care Information Systems (HCIS) to maintain compliant billing practices optimize revenue cycle processes and ensure alignment with institutional goals and policies. This role provides supervision of billing support staff ensuring the team adheres to established standards meets performance expectations and maintains consistency across all outreach billing activities. Additional collaboration occurs with Patient Financial Services (PFS) Hospital Compliance and other partners to support accurate and timely reimbursement.

This position is 100% time Monday-Friday from 0800-1630.

Duties to include:

Review CMS BCBS UHC and other commercial payer billing policies and recommend changes to outreach billing practices to maintain compliance and claim adjudication.

Assist with credentialing Department of Pathology faculty under the UIDL technical and professional NPIs and maintain records to ensure pathologists are recredentialed timely to facilitate payer reimbursement.

Provide supervision of billing support staff including day-to-day guidance performance feedback and workload management.

Assist UIDL Revenue Cycle Representatives to investigate claim rejections and denials and recommend corrective actions.

Prepare various financial reports for UIDL management and department leadership to determine profitability and identify areas of growth and decline.

The Department of Pathology is part of UI Health Care a comprehensive health sciences center that serves Iowa and the region as well as patients referred from the United States and overseas. The Clinical Laboratories are well recognized for providing outstanding and comprehensive care to the patients we serve. The breadth and depth of services provided are amongst the best in the country. The educational programs that the department participates in includes medical students clinical laboratory scientists as well as biomedical learn more: Bachelors degree and Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification or an equivalent combination of education and experience with hospital or referral laboratory billing is required.

23 years of directly related hospital or referral laboratory billing or coding experience is required.

Minimum of 6 months to 1 year of supervisory experience is required.

Working knowledge of accounting data processing and personnel administration.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Proficiency in computer software applications is required.

Reasonable knowledge of hospital and departmental policies and procedures is desirable.
