Job Description Summary

The Institute of Public Safety (IPS) offers Santa Fe Colleges (SF) Emergency Medical Services and Criminal Justice Technology degree programs as well as vocational certificate programs in the areas of law enforcement corrections emergency medical technician and paramedic. IPS also presents advanced and specialized law enforcement and corrections training programs and hosts in-service training for public safety agencies.

Under the guidance of the IPS Associate Director the Coordinator is responsible for overseeing Advanced and Specialized Law Enforcement programs and on occasion Law Enforcement Basic Recruit programs in accordance with standards of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and the Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC). This position identifies training needs; recruits selects credentials and supervises part-time instructors; reviews and evaluates curricula; develops testing instruments; analyzes test results; and maintains accurate training records. Additionally the Coordinator monitors student attendance coordinates makeup work and performs other related duties as assigned.

This position requires a solid background in the criminal justice field higher education administration and/or training program administration along with strong attention to detail to ensure compliance with CJSTC regulations and college rules and policies.

Job Description

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Coordinates day-to-day operations within assigned IPS programs which includes Advanced and Specialized Law Enforcement Basic Recruit and Correctional Officer Basic Recruit training by scheduling programs and classes recruiting and hiring instructors maintaining quality control and ensuring alignment with CJSTC and FDLE standards.

  • Identifies training needs in collaboration with local criminal justice agencies and monitors program delivery including student progress use of facilities and equipment and instructional quality.

  • Serves as an IPS liaison to the FDLE for the development implementation and evaluation of curricula.

  • Ensures that training programs and facilities meet the FDLE and CJSTC accreditation standards and requirements.

  • Attends and participates in various meetings with local criminal justice agencies FDLE staff and other personnel from colleges and training centers throughout Florida.

  • Recruits selects credentials supervises and evaluates assigned part-time instructors ensuring they have the appropriate certifications and training.

  • Creates and maintains accurate training and instructor records updating as needed in FDLEs Automated Training Management System.

  • Supports IPS Law Enforcement and Corrections program audits by preparing necessary documentation and assisting auditors.

  • Creates maintains administers and grades student examinations within assigned IPS programs.

  • Oversees the purchase and requisition of instructional materials supplies and specialized training equipment and manages inventory of program resources.

  • Assists students with registration activities helping them understand program requirements complete enrollment and resolve any registration issues.

  • Recommends appropriate student disciplinary actions in accordance with college rules and policies.

  • Assists in the preparation submission and monitoring of grant applications for IPS; administers awarded grants and tracks expenditures to ensure proper use of funds and adherence to grant requirements.

  • Complies with all published College Rules procedures guidelines and laws/regulations governing public employees including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction FERPA and confidentiality and adheres to CJSTC standards.

  • Strictly honors the privacy security and confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state federal and college regulations policies and procedures.

  • Provides service excellence through courteous informed accessible and professional engagement.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Associate Director Law Enforcement and Corrections Programs (IPS)

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: A bachelors degree with two (2) years of experience in criminal justice higher education administration training program administration or related fields or a combination of education and/or experience equal to six (6) years.

Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted. Some overnight travel will be required for attending meetings with other colleges and training centers. Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds.

Preferred: Experience in coordinating continuing workforce education activities law enforcement officer training and/or correctional officer training. Experience ensuring compliance with CJSTC training program standards or other industry accreditation standards. Experience in the preparation of grant applications.
