JOB TITLE: Student Specific School Registered Nurse
REPORTS TO: Lindsey Eagle District Head Nurse
SCHEDULE:
Days: Tuesdays and Fridays
Hours: 12:00 PM - 3:45 PM
Setting: Preschool classroom environment
BASIC FUNCTION: Student Specific School Registered Nurse serves as the primary healthcare provider for a preschool student with complex medical needs during designated school hours. This role ensures continuity of medical care in the educational setting enabling the student to participate in learning activities while receiving necessary medical interventions safely. The position bridges healthcare and education by providing direct nursing care implementing individualized health plans and collaborating with educational staff to create an inclusive and medically safe learning environment.
EVALUATION: The District Head Nurse in collaboration with the Building Principal will evaluate on an annual basis
JOB SPECIFICATIONS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Current Registered Nurse license in good standing
Pediatric nursing experience preferred
Experience with medically fragile children or special needs populations
Current CPR and First Aid certification
Ability to lift and position children as needed
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and make sound clinical judgments
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitor and assess the students health status throughout the school day
Administer prescribed medications according to physician orders and school protocols
Perform medical procedures as needed (may include suctioning feeding management etc.)
Respond promptly to medical needs and implement medical action plans
Document all care provided and communicate with healthcare team as needed
Collaborate with teachers and staff to ensure students medical needs are met during all activities
Monitor for signs of illness distress or changes in medical condition
Coordinate with parents/guardians regarding daily health status and any concerns
Support students participation in classroom activities while maintaining medical safety
Provide health-related accommodations as outlined in students care plan
Educate staff on the students specific medical needs
Assist with transitions between activities while considering medical requirements
Work closely with school administration and teaching staff
Ensuring student medical needs are met during transportation to and from school
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Follow district policies for protecting the health safety and well-being of students.
Maintain confidentiality. Communication about student progress or concerns about a student should not be shared unless directed to do so by the coordinator/teacher.
Be punctual especially when working with students in the workplace
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use handsand fingers to handle and/or feel objects tools or controls; talk and hear.
The employee must be able to squat bend use stairs stoop or kneel lift reach above the head and forward.
The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables and carts.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision color vision and the ability to adjust focus while supervising students and working with computers written materials reports assessment data driving etc.
