The Distributed Intelligence (DI) team is looking for a 2026 summer intern. DI from Itron helps utilities achieve a new level of distribution system visibility by combining granular data from the grids edge with an open-enterprise application platform. Your work will help Itron push the boundaries on grid optimization asset management DER integration and customer engagement.

Duration

40 hours per week for 10 weeks during summer 2026. The target start is May/June and the internship concludes August/September depending on student academic schedule.

Duties & Responsibilities

Data Preparation: Clean and prepare moderate- to large-sized datasets (10s to 100s of GB) for analysis algorithm development and production purposes
Data Analysis: Collaborate with senior team members and subject matter experts on exploratory data analysis (EDA) and clearly communicate the findings to relevant stakeholders
Algorithm Research: Support the development and refinement of new Machine Learning models under the guidance of senior team members
Engineering: Maintain and build data and/or production ML pipelines
Collaborate with data scientists software engineers product line managers and stakeholders

Required Skills & Experience

Education: Enrolled in a related accredited bachelors degree program (preference: STEM degree statistics data science software engineering etc.) with completion of at least two years of college courses
Intermediate experience with SQL and Python
Experience with statistical methods and data analysis
Exposure to machine learning via classes independent projects or work experience
Professional workplace communication skills

Preferred Skills & Experience

Related internship or work experience
Experience working with AWS or Azure
Enrolled in a related masters degree program (preference: STEM degree statistics data science software engineering etc.)
Familiarity with Machine learning libraries like scikit-learn and XGBoost

Travel: 0-10%

This is a typical office job with no special physical requirements or unusual work environment.

This position will be tied to our Liberty Lake WA location with hybrid work flexibility of 1-3 days on-site per week.

Liberty Lake WA: $15.87 - $44.23 per hour
