About the Role

This role is advertised as a 3 year (36 months) fixed term post. Secondments may be considered (approval must be sought from your line manager).

Important information: Due to the funded nature of this post any successful candidate must be able to meet and demonstrate the following criteria:

  • To be able to begin in post by the intake date of 19th December 2025
  • To demonstrate they can study at Level 7 through previous study or the equivalent experience of at least two years in a data intelligence-related role
  • To be a UK resident or can prove they have the right to live in the UK and have been resident for at least the previous 3 years before the start of the apprenticeship and in possession of a visa for the duration of the 3 year apprenticeship. Nottingham City Council is committed to improving public health through data-driven evidence-based decision-making. As part of our dedication to developing future talent in public health intelligence we are offering a funded apprenticeship opportunity supported by the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID).

This Level 7 (Masters equivalent) apprenticeship combines academic study with hands-on experience across a wide range of public health intelligence projects. The successful candidate will work with health and local authority partners to explore and analyse health data contributing to efforts to improve outcomes and reduce health inequalities in Nottingham.

The responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Supporting public health projects through appropriate data analysis statistical techniques and critical appraisal of research evidence
  • Managing tasks effectively and contributing to complex project delivery
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to understand and apply health intelligence to inform decision-making
  • Delivering training and sharing insights across the team using appropriate formats for a variety of technical and non-technical audiences

Key competencies (see job specification for full list) for the role include:

  1. Experience in extracting and manipulating data and data analysis including the application of statistical methods and interpretations of complex datasets
  2. Application of tools for statistical data analysis such as SQL R PowerBI etc
  3. Ability to develop the analytical and the health and care intelligence skills and knowledge of others in the health and care system through training demonstration and promotion of best practice

20% of the role will be dedicated to apprenticeship training and self-directed study.

The role will be based within our Public Health Knowledge and Intelligence team but will support all portfolios within the Public Health team as required.
