Job Summary

The House of Commons Parliamentary Precinct Operations is currently looking to staff the Driver/Operator position.

In this role you will be responsible for providing bus transportation to Members of Parliament Senators Officers and employees of the House Senate Library of Parliament Supreme Court of Canada House Administration officials and other identified authorized users.

In addition you will be required to drive trucks and cargo vans in order to provide pick-up and delivery service of items including heritage furniture and classified documents between locations on the Hill and throughout the National Capital Region. You will be responsible to provide high quality and punctual transportation according to schedules and service level standards and comply with the HoC as well as Ontario and Quebec transportation authorities policies and procedures for safety and security.

The person will be required to work overtime or irregular hours on short notice. This role requires significant physical efforts and therefore the candidates must successfully pass a pre-placement medical/ physical fitness assessment.

Please note that selected candidates will be required to provide a recent copy of their driving record at a later stage in the recruitment and selection process.

Qualifications :

Education:

  • A secondary school diploma OR an acceptable combination of education training and relevant experiences.

Experience:

  • Recent and minimum of three (3) years of experience in driving at minimum a 5 ton truck / and or buses with passengers on board;
  • A valid drivers license classes D and F with the mention Z (Ontario) OR class 3 with endorsements F and M (Quebec). *Please note that an electronic copy of the license will be required to be provided as part of the screening process.

Assets:

  • Experience in providing services to high-profile clients (e.g. Executives);
  • Experience in driving trucks and/or cargo vans;
  • Ability to perform daily vehicle inspection and complete the associated reports as per the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) regulations;
  • Ability to safely operate electric hydraulic powered lifting devices including a power tailgate forklift and an occupied/unoccupied handicap lift.
