Job Summary

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design planning delivery and operation of all AWS global other words were the people who keep the cloud running. Youll join a diverse team of software hardware and network engineers supply chain specialists security experts operations managers and other vital roles. Youll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. As a Colocation Technician in AWS you will get to help build and maintain a Cloud Computing Infrastructure across a number of local and remote Edge locations in the Americas.

The role involves some periods working independently of your team and requires the ability to drive change while maintaining excellent communication.

Key job responsibilities
Installation and configuration of routers switches and DWDM hardware.
Troubleshoot fiber optic and copper cabling network installations and configuration.
Coordinating colocation remote hands for new capacity installations.
Coordinating colocation remote hands and eyes for any network issues.
Resolving colocation facility issues.
Identify coordinate and remediate outside plant (OSP) connectivity issues.
Participating in small to mid-size projects creating or expanding colocation sites.
Building relationships with remote facilities to ensure swift response times to events.
Performing site audits to ensure safety and quality meets AWS standards.
Improving all operational processes within each site and/or cage.
Updating AWS tools.
Providing status updates to stakeholders via internal tools.
Decommissioning of cabling and network hardware in collaboration with partner teams as needed.
Physical Requirements (all physical requirements may be done with reasonable accommodations).
This position has a physical component requiring the ability to lift & rack equipment up to 40lbs; it may require working in cramped spaces or in elevated locations while adhering to health & safety guidelines.
This role involves up to 60% travel the vast majority is local travel but may have potential to include some including some international travel at times.

- 3 years of work in large-scale networking environments experience
- 2 years of experience with optical troubleshooting installation and deployment. Knowledge of network cabling optic types and test equipment such as VFL power meter and OTDR.
- Work closely with our Network Engineering & Network Technical Project Manager teams to ensure fast smooth rollout of new designs and products.
- Ability to work collaboratively remove project obstacles and drive initiatives with various stakeholders

- Knowledge of fundamentals of networking security databases (relational or NoSQL) operating systems (Unix Linux and/or Windows)
- Experience in networking storage systems operating systems and hands-on systems engineering
- Experience with analytical tools and ability to dive deep into metrics and reporting
- Experience in project management including resource planning managing schedules reporting project status and prioritizing tasks
- Knowledge of IT best practice frameworks (ITIL COBIT) and operational excellence concepts or methodologies
- Experience in Lean Management Six Sigma and other operations engineer tools
- Data Center Operations experience (racking & stacking devices cable management hot & cold aisle containment knowledge).
- Experience in participating in on-call rotations and providing after-hours support in an environment that operates 24/7.
- Experience with troubleshooting server devices and understanding key functions of internal outer components.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $61700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $138100/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered equity sign-on payments and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits.
