Job Summary

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs or designee the
Director of the Academic Support Center is responsible the management and assessment for academic advising
tutoring and writing support services ensuring that these areas work collaboratively to promote student success
persistence and retention. This role requires a commitment to fostering inclusive learning environments and
supporting the academic growth of a diverse student population.

Essential Job Functions:
Provide strategic direction management and assessment for academic advising tutoring and
writing support services.
Supervise and support professional staff faculty liaisons graduate assistants and student workers
assigned to academic support areas.
Develop and implement policies procedures and best practices to enhance student learning and
success.
Manage the university retention module and early alert system.
Oversee and implement changes from DOE pertaining to SAP.
Assist registrar with generating SAP letters to students and preparing SAP reports.
Collaborate with academic departments student affairs and other campus partners to integrate
academic support into the overall student experience.
Oversee training and professional development for advisors tutors and writing consultants.
Collaborate with academic departments student affairs and other campus partners to integrate

Oversee training and professional development for advisors tutors and writing consultants.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of academic support programs using data-driven
approaches to improve outcomes in student persistence retention and graduation.
Coordinate early alert and intervention initiatives for at-risk students.
Prepare and manage budgets schedules and resource allocation for academic support services.
Stay current with trends and research in academic support advising and student success
strategies particularly within HBCU and liberal arts contexts.
Represent the university at conferences workshops and community events related to academic
support and student success.

Other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Staff graduate assistants and student workers.

Job Qualifications
Required Education and/or Experience
Masters degree required in education higher education administration counseling or a related field;
doctorate preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in academic advising tutoring writing support or
related areas in higher education.
Demonstrated supervisory experience and ability to lead diverse teams.
Strong understanding of best practices in academic support and student development particularly for first-generation underrepresented and non-traditional student populations.
Excellent communication organizational and interpersonal skills.
Ability to use data and assessment to drive continuous improvement.
Demonstrated understanding and strong commitment to cultural diversity.

Physical Demands
Ability to sit or stand for up to 8 hours/day. Some lifting (up to 25 pounds occasionally) bending and
carrying. Specific vision abilities include the ability to use close vision. The employee is regularly required to
talk and hear and to use hands and fingers to handle or feel.
