The Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) provides a supervised safe therapeutic environment for the developmentally disabled and/or mentally ill in long-term care and acute settings. This RN is responsible for providing comprehensive clinical care to patients including assessment planning implementation and evaluation of both direct and indirect care. As an integral member of the interdisciplinary team the nurse delivers patient and community-centered care advocating for patients and their families by acting as a liaison and upholding their rights and beliefs. Utilizing evidence-based medical practices the RN effectively manages unexpected and emergent situations promptly addressing and treating a variety of injuries and illnesses with professionalism and expertise.

- Oversee the units and serves as a resource to nursing staff in maintaining a safe therapeutic and caring environment on the units and throughout the hospital.
- Act as role models for the delivery of safe and therapeutic nursing care.
- Identify and communicate clinical and administrative concerns to Executive Nursing Leadership and/or the Executive on Call.
- Initiate Emergency Preparedness Plan and Patient Care Services Continuity of Operations Plans when needed in emergency situations.
- Monitor staffs adherence to the Policies and Standards.
- Monitor staffing throughout the hospital.
- Demonstrate positive leadership.
- Conduct physical assessments of patients including psychiatric or admissions.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Administer medications and monitor their effects.
- Provide therapeutic interventions and crisis management.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient care.
- Manage delegated tasks to Registered Nurses (RNs) Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Certified Nursing Assistants.
- Educate patients and their families about treatment plans and health management.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care.
- Advocate for patient rights and ensure a safe treatment environment.
- Execute charge nurse responsibilities.
- Process physician orders.
- Monitor vital signs.
- Test blood glucose levels.
- Complete treatments.
- Conduct pain assessments.
- Change dressings.
- Provide venipuncture services.
- Management of the milieu.
- Utilize the electronic health record (EHR) obtain clinical information and to document patient care.
- Communicate both verbally and in writing to report related findings.
- In accordance with Department policies declare a Personal Safety Emergency stemming from any situation where the physical or emotional safety of an individual is at risk and immediate action is necessary to prevent harm or injury (e.g. physical assaults verbal threats medical equipment malfunctions or incidents of patient/resident elopement) as needed.
- Participate in Treatment Team Meetings to maximize positive results through interdisciplinary care.
- Initiate protocols for emergent situations where immediate action is necessary to prevent harm.
- Respond to inquiries of family members advocates and other interested parties insuring adherence to the confidentiality laws and HIPPA Regulations.
- Testify in commitment hearing when found appropriate and necessary.
- Completes required organizational compliance education including assigned requirements that are client-specified for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.

Qualifications :
Basic Requirements/Certifications:
- Minimum of three (3) years of nursing experience.
- Minimum of two (2) years experience in inpatient Psychiatric Nursing.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in all other areas assigned.
- Experience in an inpatient setting. Home health Psychiatric Nursing experience is not applicable.
Education Required:
- Licensed in New Hampshire and have no record of prior or pending disciplinary action against him or her by the licensure body or agency. New Hampshire is a member of the National Council of State Board of Nursing and participates in the multistate Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
Physical Requirements:
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
- Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
- May require bending stooping and lifting up to 75 lbs.
Other Special Qualifications:
- Must be able to read write and speak English to effectively communicate.
- US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
- Pass State of New Hampshire required background check.
