We are seeking a highly disciplined Field Operations Tester to execute functional Quality Control (QC) and validation of mission-critical onboard technology systems for a leading transportation client. This role is a hands-on field-based assignment requiring the individual to ride trains frequently sometimes outside of normal business hours to perform rigorous testing in a live dynamic environment. The specialist will play a vital role in ensuring system reliability and safety by adhering to strict testing protocols coordinating team efforts and maintaining meticulous documentation of test cases results and defect traceability. This position demands a strong technical foundation exceptional punctuality and the ability to travel extensively primarily along the Northeast Corridor with additional testing required for the Pacific Northwest (Cascades route).
Key Responsibilities
- Execute Functional Testing: Perform rigorous hands-on functional testing of onboard technology systems (e.g. communications monitoring diagnostics) aboard operating trains in the field.
- Travel & Field Work: Frequently ride trains on the Northeast Corridor (NEC) with required residency in the Philadelphia Wilmington or Washington D.C. area and be prepared for travel and testing on the Pacific Northwest (Cascades) route.
- Coordinate Testing Efforts: Organize and direct the participation and schedules of other test resources to ensure comprehensive and timely test coverage.
- Documentation and Traceability: Clearly and consistently document test cases detailed execution results and defect outcomes ensuring full traceability back to specific system requirements.
- Defect Management: Identify log and accurately trace defects and deviations communicating findings effectively with cross-functional development engineering and management teams.
- Protocol Adherence: Maintain strong discipline in following structured testing protocols and schedules even during travel that may occur outside of standard business hours or with short notice.
- Communication: Serve as an effective and professional communicator both verbally and in writing when coordinating field logistics and reporting technical findings.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience in functional testing Quality Assurance (QA) or Quality Control (QC) practices.
- Solid foundation in technology systems and testing methodologies (scripting or automation is not required).
- Demonstrated ability to produce clear consistent and detailed documentation of test results and defect tracing.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively and frequently along the Northeast Corridor (NEC) and for multi-day trips to the Pacific Northwest.
- High level of punctuality and professionalism required to meet strict train schedules and operational demands.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for coordination and reporting across technical and non-technical teams.
- Residency required in the Northeast Corridor (NEC) with preference given to candidates in the Philadelphia Wilmington or Washington D.C. areas.
