Position: Activities Director (Assisted and Independent Living)
Department: Activities
Reports To: Executive Director of AL/IL
Position Purpose: Plans organizes supervises and directs all administrative and operational activities of the Activities Department.
Position Overview
At St. Dominic Village our mission is to provide compassionate care and foster an environment where our residents can achieve their highest potential. This position would lead the team of activities and serve as the Activity Director for the Assisted and Independent Living facility.
Qualifications and Personal Sills and Traits Desired / Physical Requirements
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least two (2) years experience working with activities and or special events in a senior living setting.
- Has completed a training course approved by the State.
- Preferred applicant will have state issued certification as Activities Director or Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.
- Must be available for Holiday and weekend events when needed.
- Ability to communicate with all walks of life.
- Must present oneself in a professional manner with a friendly attitude and voice when greeting the public.
- Must be loving compassionate understanding individual with capacity to recognize and adapt to changes in the residents limitations and needs.
- Must be sensitive to residents limitations and needs.
- Must demonstrate mature judgement.
- Must willingly demonstrate the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
- Must demonstrate initiative and be a self-starter with job duties.
- Must have the ability to design activities programs that provide a variety of choices to residents
- Memory/Dementia care preferred.
- Must have reliable transportation and have a valid drivers license and good driving record.
- Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Word Excel and Outlook.
- Excellent organizational skills are necessary
- CTRAC preferred
- Ability to assist in evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
- Ability to bend stoop kneel crouch perform overhead lifting and perform other common physical movements as needed for the position.
- May be subject to falls burns from equipment and/or odors throughout the day encounter reactions from dust tobacco smoke disinfectants and other air contaminants.
- Subject to exposure to infectious waste diseases and/or conditions which include AIDS Coronavirus Hepatitis B and Tuberculosis.
- May be subject to hostile or emotional residents family members visitors or personnel.
- Ability to read write speak and understand the English language.
- Must be a supportive team member contribute to and be an example of teamwork.
- Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Ability to deal tactfully with personnel residents family members visitors government agencies/personnel and the general public.
- Must have patience tact and willingness to deal with difficult residents family and staff.
- Must be able to relay information concerning a residents condition.
- Must not pose a threat to the health and safety of other individuals in the workplace.
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.

Responsibilities
- Plan and organize the activities program on an on-going basis.
- Prepare a monthly calendar of activities events.
- Procure outside entertainment.
- Plan field trips.
- Design activities to meet the needs of all residents.
- Supervise and lead all scheduled activities.
- Recruit and supervise volunteers.
- Ensure supplies are available.
- Assist volunteers with activities as needed.
- Arrange volunteer appreciation programs annually.
- Manage activities budget and shop for supplies.
- Shop for residents when needed and arrange shopping trips for residents.
- Decorate facility to remind residents of holidays and other special events.
- Special party decorating.
- Coordinate and lead resident floor meetings and pass on concerns to appropriate departments.
- Maintain library for residents.
- Obtain books from Houston Public Library when appropriate.
Physical Demands and other Requirements of the Position
- Have the flexibility to bend/stoop squat repetitively during shift.
- Have the ability to lift up to 40lbs
- Have the ability to regularly kneel repetitively during shifts.
- Have the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis during shift.
- Have the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis during shift.
- Have the ability to walk extensively throughout the shift.
- Have the ability to interact with all staff and residents in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and ability to adjust focus.
