Purpose of Position
The Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders (CSD) at the University of North Dakota is seeking two Assistant Professor(s) to teach undergraduate and graduate courses and contribute to the mission of the department and the university through service activities.
Successful candidates must be able to provide instruction in one or more of the following areas: Speech and Hearing Science Audiology Neuroanatomy Adult Neurogenic Disorders and/or Stuttering.
The Department is housed in the College of Arts & Sciences and offers a B.A. in Communication Sciences & Disorders and an M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP). The department currently has eight full-time and four part-time faculty members and a state-of-the-art clinic facility. There are typically 100 undergraduate students and 40 graduate students enrolled.
The Department is a part of an integrated on-campus clinic The Northern Prairie Community Clinic (NPCC). The clinic serves as a training placement for graduate students in psychology counseling and speech-language pathology. Students are supervised by licensed professionals. NPCC aims to serve the Grand Forks community and state of North Dakota.
Established in 1883 the University of North Dakota is the oldest research university in North Dakota. Duties & Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in CSD which may include:
Survey of Communication Disorders
Neuroanatomy of Communication Disorders
Right Hemisphere Damage
Aphasia
Intro to Audiology
Speech and Hearing Science
Aural Rehabilitation
Anatomy and Physiology of the Speech and Hearing Mechanism
Audiology for SLPs
Work collaboratively with other faculty to achieve consistent and high-quality learning and clinical environments
Required Competencies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to teach inspire and mentor students
- Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty staff and students
- Competence in using technology and ability to adopt new tools for both on-campus and online (if needed) course delivery
Minimum Requirements
- Terminal degree in Speech-Language Pathology Audiology or related field by August 15 2026
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
- ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence
- Teaching experience (including clinical instruction)
- Demonstrated research potential
