Job Summary and Responsibilities

  • Oversees budgeting and long term financial planning for the hospital in order to achieve the organizations mission and vision through short-term and long-term goals.
  • Represents the organization and its directors and officers in hospital-related financial affairs including the presentation of financial results and complex industry and regulatory issues impacting the hospital and its related entities.
  • Accountable for the content and professionalism of the hospitals business plans.
  • Participates as a contributing leader in the hospitals strategy and business development functions and activities.
  • Participates in the preparation and execution of policies procedures and plans required for effective hospital operations and regulatory compliance.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive healthcare finance experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of leading managers/directors in a complex hospital or health-system setting.
  • Masters in Business Finance Health Administration or related field required; CPA preferred (nice-to-have not required).
  • Recent executive finance leadership in a large high-acuity teaching hospital (ideally 500 beds; tertiary/quaternary).

  • Proven full hospital P&L ownership with regular board/finance committee presentations.

  • Revenue Cycle Management experience

  • Hands-on academic finance: GME budgeting and IME/DGME reimbursement (FTE caps affiliations) and research/clinical-trials billing oversight (coverage analysis/compliance).

  • Demonstrated capital governance: led >$10M clinical investments (neuro/transplant/oncology preferred) from pro forma to realized ROI; strong throughput/capacity modeling.

  • Ability to operate in a capacity-constrained capital-limited environment and prioritize for impact.

  • Exceptional stakeholdering with physician/institute leaders (e.g. Barrow-type partnerships) market leadership Foundation and external partners (university/elected officials).

  • Experienced change leader who can take finance from reporting to decision-enabling (forecast discipline operator dashboards close optimization).

  • Comfort engaging around labor relations/union dynamics while sustaining mission quality and performance.

  • Strong command of cost accounting/decision support and analytics; familiarity with EHR/ERP and finance tools (e.g. Epic/Cerner Axiom/Kaufman Hall ActionOI; research CTMS like OnCore/Velos a plus).

  • Knowledge of Arizona payer environment (AHCCCS APR-DRG) or ability to ramp quickly.

  • Demonstrated alignment with CommonSpirit mission & values
