About the Opportunity

Our client a well-established architecture engineering and design firm with a strong corporate office presence is hiring a Controller to lead their accounting function. This individual will oversee the day-to-day operations of the finance department provide guidance to a small team and support leadership with financial analysis and reporting needed to drive critical business decisions.

The ideal candidate is hands-on detail-oriented and confident in financial reporting and management. They should also be an excellent communicator with the ability to balance strategic oversight with the practical execution of accounting activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a small finance team (AP/Payroll Specialist and Project Accountant) ensuring training development and cross-training opportunities

  • Manage accurate month-end and year-end closings including journal entries reconciliations and preparation of management reports with KPI analysis

  • Support the annual budgeting process and deliver variance and forecast analyses to leadership

  • Oversee cash flow including weekly cash needs banking transactions and management of payables and receivables

  • Administer and monitor banking relationships and corporate accounts

  • Review payroll processing and related general ledger entries prepared by team members

  • Provide project-level reporting and analysis to support project managers and executives

  • Partner with external tax advisors for preparation of corporate filings

  • Manage business insurance renewals and compliance

  • Track fixed assets and coordinate with outside CPA firm on updates and disposals

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency strengthen internal controls and streamline workflows

  • Deliver ad hoc financial reporting and analysis as needed

What Youll Bring

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance required

  • 10 years of progressive accounting experience across general ledger AR/AP project accounting forecasting and budgeting

  • Strong technical knowledge of accounting standards and financial principles

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems

  • Experience with project accounting and reporting in a professional services setting

  • CPA preferred (not required)

  • Previous experience with Deltek VantagePoint or similar systems a plus

  • Exceptional organizational analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner effectively across teams

  • Commitment to ethical practices and relationship management
