The Controller is a strategic and hands-on leader responsible for overseeing LifeStreams accounting and financial reporting functions. This role ensures strong financial management internal controls and compliance with GAAP nonprofit regulations and organizational policies. As a key member of the finance team the Controller plays a vital role in supporting LifeStreams mission-driven work by safeguarding the financial health of the organization.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
Oversee and manage all general accounting functions including accounts payable accounts receivable payroll and general ledger.
Prepare timely and accurate monthly quarterly and annual financial statements.
Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit financial reporting requirements.
Lead the annual audit process and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.
Budgeting & Forecasting
Collaborate with the CFO and leadership team to develop the annual operating budget.
Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis and recommendations.
Support grant budgeting tracking and reporting in coordination with program teams.
Internal Controls & Compliance
Maintain and improve internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Ensure compliance with federal state and local laws related to nonprofit finances including IRS and funder reporting.
Oversee accurate and timely filing of tax and regulatory documents (e.g. IRS Form 990 MA filings).
Team Leadership & Collaboration
Supervise finance staff and support professional development and cross-training within the team.
Partner with departments across the organization to strengthen financial literacy and ensure effective use of resources.
Promote a culture of accountability transparency and continuous learning aligned with LifeStreams values.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field; MBA preferred.
Minimum of 57 years of progressive accounting experience with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
Nonprofit financial management experience strongly preferred.
Knowledge of fund accounting grant management and government contract compliance.
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with systems such as Sage Intacct QuickBooks or similar is a plus.
Strong analytical organizational and communication skills.
