DescriptionThrough the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSSrelated work Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada by Canadians.
As an Intern Electrical engineering you will assist the Electrical engineering team on new construction projects at Seaspan Shipyards! Under the direction of the Manager Electrical Engineering the Intern will work on all phases of new construction design projects including: requirements decomposition design preparations supporting analysis material selection and specification engineering execution and engineering close-out activities.
Note: Due to business needs this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue North Vancouver.
What youll do
Design in assigned areas of Electrical/Electronics by preparing design and calculation packages to ensure contract design requirements are met.
Assist in developing and/or reviewing design documents for fisheries icebreaking and naval replenishment vessels in order to achieve customer Classification Society and regulatory approval.
Assist in the development of material specifications and bills of material in accordance with Seaspan material strategies and customer requirements.
Assist in providing technical direction to suppliers and subcontractors related to the Electronics Systems design to achieve contract cost and schedule performance.
What youll bring
Enrolled in an 2nd or 3rd year Electrical Engineering or other Engineering degree program.
Interested students should have a passion for shipbuilding and be interested in implementing Naval Architecture concepts within a production environment.
Students must be comfortable working in a heavy industrial setting.
Strong communication interpersonal and organization skills.
Proficiency working with CAD/CAM software suite including AutoCAD.
Strong technical skills including the ability to read and interpret technical specifications and drawings.
Excellent digital literacy including Microsoft Excel/Word/ PowerPoint.
Ability to work independently with minimal direction and manage their time optimally.

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.
Start Date of Internship: Monday January 12th 2026.
End Date of Internship: Friday May 1st 2026 (4-Months).
