Description

Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSSrelated work Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada by Canadians.

The Intern Accounting Operations will report directly to the Manager Accounting Operations. The Manager Accounting Operations may delegate this reporting function as deemed necessary. The role begins with assisting the AP/AR Clerks with daily tasks and gradually progresses to more advanced responsibilities including preparing analytical reports such as AP aging account reconciliations estimates forecasts and cheque run reports. The intern will also undertake a project aimed at enhancing efficiency within the Accounting Operations Team. This position provides exposure to all aspects of Accounting Operations within the division.

The intern will receive guidance on the projects essentials and access to necessary resources to successfully complete the task.

Note: Due to business needs this position is required to be fully on-site based at 115 Carrie Cates Ct North Vancouver.

What youll do

  • Entering and coding accounts payable invoices into accounting system.
  • Receiving invoices (electronically or physically) and scanning into system.
  • Routing accounts payable invoices for approval.
  • Ensuring invoices are appropriately approved before processing for payment.
  • Receiving entering and coding accounts receivable receipts.
  • Creating and posting journal entries for accounts payable and receivable.
  • Reconciling vendor and customer accounts.
  • Assisting other accounting clerks for vacation relief or during peak periods.
  • Performing other administrative duties such as bank deposits mail filing etc.
  • Perform additional ad-hoc analysis and other duties as assigned.

What youll bring

  • Currently enrolled in a 2- or 3-year undergraduate degree program in Finance Accounting Business Administration.

  • Completion of introductory accounting classes is preferred.

  • Basic understanding of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.

  • Outstanding analytical skills to capture analyze and process large amounts of data.

  • Innovative thinking skills with the resourcefulness to get to the source of truth.

  • Outstanding integrity and honesty in all situations.

  • Strong communication interpersonal and organization skills.

  • Excellent knowledge of the English language verbal and written.

  • Experience and strong comfort with Microsoft Excel.

  • Outstanding problem solving and research skills.

  • Minimum 50 WPM typing skills.

  • Strong academic results.

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.

Start Date of Internship: Monday January 12th 2026.

End Date of Internship: Friday August 28th 2026 (8-Months).
