Child Welfare Adoption
Job Title: Adoption Supervisor
Reports To: Program Manager
Status: Full-Time
FLSA Status: Exempt
Our Mission: To provide expert comprehensive services in southeastern Michigan that strengthen children adults and families impacted by abuse and neglect autism developmental disabilities and mental health challenges so they are successful in their communities.

Job Summary:
The Adoption Supervisor focuses primarily on the completion of adoption placements in accordance with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) contract rates to transition children from foster care to adoption in an expedient manner and to oversee recruitment of adoptive families for children who do not have one identified.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Reviews and approves placement and all other reports and recommendations issued by the adoption specialists.
  • Assists the program manager in the development and management of the program.
  • Conducts regular unit meetings staff supervision sessions and any other necessary conferences as deemed relevant to the department.
  • Supervises up to 5 social service workers (Adoption Specialists).
  • Participates in required trainings.
  • Attends all scheduled team meetings.
  • Assists with emergency situations by covering shift(s) as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
  • Must be familiar with state policies and procedures regarding foster child adoptions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word Outlook and Excel.
  • Concise grammatical skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to provide culturally competent services that shows sensitivity to the service populations cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.

Education Certificates Licenses Registrations:
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a human behavioral science and three years of experience as a social service worker in a child welfare agency a child caring institution or in an agency performing a child welfare function. Adoption experience preferred. Masters degree preferred.

  • Valid Michigan Drivers License appropriate insurance and use of own vehicle.
  • Must have completed the 9-week adoption pre-service institute provided by DHHS upon hire.
  • Must be able to attend and complete the new supervisor institute training provided by DHHS within 112 days of hire or must have completed this training upon hire. Completion is achieving a passing score.
