Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS-related work Seaspan Shipyards is leading the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada by Canadians.
The Intern Facilities & Manufacturing Engineering will support the Facilities and Manufacturing Engineering team in assigned projects focusing on process improvement workspace optimization and manufacturing efficiency initiatives. This role will provide hands-on exposure to production environments and engineering problem-solving within one of Canadas largest shipbuilding programs.
Note: Due to business needs this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue North Vancouver.
What youll do
Support the Facilities and Manufacturing Engineering team in assigned projects
Identify and improve manufacturing processes such as plasma cutting fitting and welding fabrication and sub-assembly
Perform time studies and collect data to confirm manufacturing norms
Calculate workspace requirements and design strategies to utilize the workspace more effectively
Create workspace/facilities layouts using AutoCAD
Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and manufacturing instructions used by the workforce
Identify waste in manufacturing processes using lean methodologies
Work directly on the production floor with different groups of trades
Perform other duties as assigned
What youll bring
Enrollment in an Engineering program (Mechanical Industrial Manufacturing or related field)
Strong interest in manufacturing process improvement and production optimization
Experience or coursework in lean manufacturing principles is an asset
Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (Excel Word PowerPoint)
Strong analytical problem-solving and organizational skills
Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with diverse teams
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently on assigned tasks

Seaspans Internships are 4 or 8 months in duration. We require a full-time commitment MondayFriday 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.

End Date of Internship: Friday May 1st 2026 (4-Months) or Friday August 28th 2026 (8-Months)
