In this role...

Quality Engineer position will focus on High Time in Service (HTIS) Quality Issues understanding root cause developing methods to catch issues sooner build robust processes to avert these issues in the future and support best practices for service. This position entails interesting and fast paced projects focused on design/physics related quality issues that typically manifest later in product life. Be a part of the team that is providing significant warranty spend and failure rate savings to IPTSE and Ford Motor Company helping to achieve our aggressive quality improvement goals.



Responsibilities

What youll do...

  • Lead/support High Time in Service Quality Projects using Design for Six Sigma / 8D processes on aggressive timelines to support IPTSEs warranty spend and failure rate reduction targets.
  • Responsibilities include evaluation of high warranty spend/failure rate subsystems and engine/vehicle applications with a focus on issues that contribute to > 12 MIS warranty and/or are design/physics related versus supplier quality/manufacturing defect related.
  • Projects will be expected to rapidly work through the Define Characterize Optimize and Verify phases of the DFSS process including root cause identification and verification implementation of ICA/PCAs read across and prevent recurrence.
  • Project leaders/supporters will be expected to present frequently to senior management project status and results interface regularly with quality powerpack and core engineers and TSs and maintain required project documentation including 1-pagers 6-panels 8D reports management summary documents etc.
  • Strong focus on warranty data/trend analysis part return analysis and physical understanding of engine/powertrain systems and subsystems as key tools to identification root cause and interim and permanent corrective actions.
  • Help develop relationships with dealerships and fleets as key sources of information to quickly identify and resolve HTIS quality issues.
  • Ability to design execute or coordinate analytical and physical testing from component bench level to full powertrain/vehicle testing to identify root cause replicate quality issues and validate fixes.
  • Identify and document lessons learned for knowledge preservation.
  • Lead/attend team meetings.


Qualifications

Youll Have...

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 3 years of experience with internal combustion engines thermal systems or after-treatment systems in one or more of the following areas: Design Test Controls Calibration.
  • 2 years of experience in project leadership driving initiatives to achieve timely milestones and ensuring the attainment of crucial key performance indicators (KPIs)

Even better you may have...

  • 6-Sigma green belt black belt and Design for Six Sigma experience a plus.
  • Familiarity/experience with Fords Strategic Problem Solving tools including key root cause identification tools (yf(x) stress/strength interference 3L5W etc.)
  • Familiarity/experience with Fords Failure Mode Avoidance and Robustness and Reliability processes (P-Diagram DFMEA RCL etc.)
  • Familiarity with Fords quality tools including GSAR MWATS QED etc.
  • Knowledge of key engine/powertrain subsystems including base engine cooling airpath fuel after-treatment etc.
  • Strong project management problem solving and organization skills
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple work streams simultaneously
  • Enjoys taking on new challenges embraces learning and discovery.
