In Nigeria TRACE promotes child-friendly practices and eliminates child labour particularly in cocoa-growing households communities farmer groups and cooperatives and thus reduces and mitigates (child labor-related) supply chain risks for cocoa intermediaries and cocoa trading companies operating in the project areas.

In this context LWR is seeking to engage an independent consultant or a firm to facilitate (in collaboration with the LWR team and TRACE project partners) a three-day training for mentors teachers and community leaders on mentorship and psycho-social support.

Objectives of the assignment

The independent consultant or firm will conduct four days of training for participants from the TRACE Project Communities in Abia Akwa Ibom Cross River Ondo Ekiti and Osun States.

The consultant will be tasked with:

  • Supporting the project team in identifying beneficiaries and assessing their needs.
  • Facilitating 4-day training and coaching sessions for project participants to be clustered in 3 locations in Akure Ikom and Uyo and integrating gender consideration into the selection of participants for the training. The total training days will be 12 days.
  • Observing assessing mentoring and coaching trainer candidates as they deliver training to project beneficiaries for a period of 4 days inclusive of curriculum adaptation and reporting on both training.
  • Reporting on the progress of trainers towards the provision of mentorship and psycho-social support.
  • Certifying participants after the successful completion of the program.

Tasks to be performed by the consultant:

  • Develop a training plan and an adapted training curriculum/topics in delivering psycho-social training.
  • Collaborate closely with project staff in the integration of gender components into the training.
  • Provide effective and efficient coaching/supervision to the trainer candidates as they roll out training to beneficiaries in the project communities.
  • Assess trainers during the delivery of training for children and youth beneficiaries.
  • Certify successful participants during the coaching sessions at the training.
  • Provide a comprehensive training report including an assessment of each trainer candidate.
  • Develop awareness messages/campaigns for mental health and psychosocial support to disseminate to communities. Coordinate with other members of the team on the most efficacious ways to convey those messages.

Preferred Qualifications and Competences:

To execute this assignment a firm should have the following technical qualifications:

  • Degree in general guidance and counseling social or educational psychology social work anthropology humanities or social sciences.
  • Previous experience in eliminating child labor work in cocoa farming community work and managing small teams.
  • Relevant work experience in the areas of training delivery in particular in the area of child labour and first aid psychosocial support to children and youth at risk.
  • Understanding of Child protection issues and first aid psychosocial support
  • Familiarity with the political and economic environment of the South-West including Nigeria.
  • Knowledge of the safeguarding
  • Good understanding of gender concepts in development.
  • Good presentation skills and Excellent English and local language skills. Experience in communicating and working with a wide range of people including people of culturally diverse backgrounds.

    2. Explanation of the proposed approach and methodology for the training and coaching/mentoring sessions
    3. A proposed work plan presented in a Gantt chart.
    4. Team composition and level of effort of each proposed team member.
