The Micro Grid Segment Leader is a high-impact cross-functional leadership role responsible for driving Steel Nations strategic growth in the micro grid sector. This individual will oversee the full lifecycle of micro grid projects from early-stage business development through partner engagement project execution and post-delivery performance.
This role combines segment management project delivery oversight and commercial accountability including full P&L ownership for the micro grid vertical. The successful candidate will be responsible for building scalable go-to-market strategies nurturing key client and partner relationships managing internal and external resources and ensuring profitable on-time delivery of complex distributed energy infrastructure.
What will you do:
Business Development & Market Growth
- Lead the development and execution of strategic growth plans for the micro grid business.
- Identify and pursue new market opportunities customers and verticals (utilities industrials municipalities campuses etc.).
- Cultivate strong relationships with developers energy consultants utilities and technology partners.
- Respond to RFPs collaborate on proposals and lead negotiations with clients and strategic partners.
- Represent Steel Nation at industry events trade shows and thought leadership forums.
P&L and Commercial Management
- Own the micro grid vertical P&L: manage revenue forecasting margin targets cost control and profitability analysis.
- Collaborate with finance to set annual budgets track KPIs and report on financial health of the business unit.
- Oversee pricing strategy contract structures and risk management for new and ongoing projects.
- Monitor financial performance across all micro grid projects and implement corrective actions when needed.
Channel Development & Partner Management
- Build and manage a high-performing ecosystem of EPCs OEMs subcontractors and segment partners.
- Define partner engagement strategies performance expectations and enablement processes.
- Ensure alignment with partners on scope schedules compliance and client experience.
Project Execution Oversight
- Lead internal and external project teams to deliver micro grid installations with excellence in cost quality and safety.
- Oversee scheduling budgeting materials procurement and field operations.
- Review engineering work orders job books and client deliverables for accuracy and timeliness.
- Serve as a senior point of escalation for job site challenges risk mitigation and stakeholder alignment.
Safety Compliance & Quality
- Partner with the Safety Director to enforce and exceed OSHA client and regulatory safety standards.
- Champion a safety-first culture across all sites and subcontracted operations.
- Drive standardization and continuous improvement in quality assurance processes.
What will make you a great fit:
- Bachelors degree in Engineering Construction Management Energy Systems or related field; or equivalent work experience in a related field.
- 10 years in construction or energy infrastructure with 3 years in P&L or business unit ownership.
- Demonstrated experience with distributed energy resources micro grids or utility-scale energy systems.
- Strong understanding of commercial construction operations and safety protocols.
- Experience managing direct teams and external partners across multiple concurrent projects.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project Excel and project management/financial reporting tools.
- OSHA certification and a valid drivers license required.
- Proven executive communication and negotiation ability
- Ability to travel independently to work sites client meetings and conferences/trade shows. Travel is estimated at 30%.
